The Fishing Thread

Reet I’m brand new to this carey on, did a bit of fishing when I was young but my son has caught the fishing bug and I want to gan with him.

Any decent fishing sets recommended? I’ve got a carp rod but he’s knackered the reel on it already, but I need something suitable for sea fishing.

Not my favourite fishing.
Took my Barbel rod and some made up Barbel paste to try out on the local reservoir this afternoon.
3 Commons. This was just touching 17lb.
Barbless hooks, 10lb line and PVA bags. decent sport.

@Jon Dough @Big Jeff @beverly macca
Nice 👍

I'm away next weekend down to Trent View for the weekend, first time out since July last year so looking forward to a break

Where are you based mate?

Your best bet will be to go to your local tackle shop.

Let me know where approximately you are and what type of fishing you want to try.

We are not too far away from the mackerel season so if you want to take your son that’s an ideal way to get into some fish.

In South Shields so plenty opportunity for mackerel, he’s been out twice for that but not caught owt yet.

Go to Lennys Bait and Tackle at the Nook. It’s near the Tesco Express and Hellrazors barbers.

He is a cracking lad and will sort you out.

Closed Mondays. For mackerel best bet is the pier but it’s still closed beyond the first gate. But you can fish from the Brigades Hut up to the gate and expect fish.

But it will be busy. Good luck!

Still too early for mackerel but it’s a great way to get the bug as when they’re in, they’re in.

Light spinning rod and reel with 8lb line and jobs a good un. For a better day out than a pier (avoids a lot of the summer piss heads) try some deep water rock edges like the Beacons in Newbiggin. My favourite place for mackie and where I took my lads.

My son was in there yesterday, he’s after a new rod too. You can climb around the gate I think but if you get caught you get a fine!

What motor have you got on it?
It has a mariner 60hp stroke on it, tbh I dunno much about them but it seemed to go ok when when it was in the water, I’ll see what it’s like over the coming months and upgrade if need be although hopefully it’s decent.

I used to use a pen 525 for years and loved it, nuttin to big but enough power for the rough ground up Northumberland.

For a rod I had(still have it actually) a diawa sandstorm, probably better about now as I bought it years ago but it served me well in all sea conditions.

Theres a lot to choose from these days and I assume it’s all a lot better anarl.

That’s the plan, my mate visited over winter and took him up Cromer and taught him how to cast out and stuff so he already has some idea. I’ve started to get a bit movement back in my arm also so hopefully in a few more month it might be recovered enough to fish myself. I prefer beach fishing if I’m honest, never really been into carp fishing etc.

I’m not a Carp fisherman to be honest as prefer River fishing.
