The Fishing Thread

Just got back from bodo Norway yesterday.

I’ve moaned about the cold in the past. It was mild as anything all week but absolutely pissed down everyday 😂😂

The fishing isn’t what it used to be up there. The commercial fleets have absolutely battered the stocks which is surprising given Norways supposed strict fishing laws. The fishing has been on the decline for years.

I still had some decent fish out like biggest cod 28lb and a 31lb halibut on the last day.

Also starting to lose access to quite a few of the popular marks over there because of bellends who can’t handle the cold setting fires on peoples land.

Just found out it is now illegal to fish two marks in South Shields between 10 pm and 6.00 am.

The marks affected are the Walkway (old Velva Liquids site) and the middle dock, ferry landing, Mill Dam area.

The reason, they are close to houses and the residents are being disturbed.
So go down there and just cast out with no bait, you can't be accused of fishing if you aren't using bait. And take the brightest lights you have.

Bet its you shining that bloody Headlight through people's windows 😂😂

Arnly kidding marra

10 cans of Ace and some midnight EDM!
Anyone entering the European shore fishing comp this weekend?

2 days on the Wye was one of those Mate.
Lost part of my reel, first cast snagged. Still ok to use it and have a spare on order.
Needed at least a 2 and 3/4 test curve rod and 12 foot. Mine was 11 ft and 1 and 3/4.
Water was pushing through and you needed a 5 oz less or feeder to hold bottom.

Borrowed a mates heavy feeder and rod tip felt bloody awful and like a pole vaulter jumping. Definitely learnt for next time.
No maggots and that is what they were taking.

Back to Pike up and until the end of this month.

Happens to us all mate 🎣

Did people not catch much?
Nah it was desperate. Load of top fishermen from up here went two days without a bite.

Rays made up the majority of the weigh ins. Some lad from down the road took 7500 for a 12lb blonde ray.

There’s two boats crashed in the entrance to the Humber ff spurn point the morning it looks really bad. Chemical tanker and oil. Massive fires.

Only a pity you were not a fair few miles more downstream.
A bottle of beer would be waiting for you in the rucksack mate.
Booked a day off, 2 weeks today and will once again try for an elusive Barbel.
Forgotten what they look like now !!
Check out this bloke he is a cracking angler and a good lad.

It’s mostly sea fishing which I know is not your thing but he’s highly watchable.

The coldest night I ever fished in this country was on the old Velva Fuels jetty way back in the late 80’s with some of the lads from Seaham SAC. Reels kept jamming up as the sea water was turning to ice as soon as it hit the air. Rats everywhere. Can’t remember if we blanked.

I’ve had a few sessions there. Beer was involved.

One of those where you question your sanity.
Getting older now is worse for feeling the cold. Roll on to the warmer months now 🎣

The rats down there used to be the size of cats. My mate ran at one to chase it away and it stood its ground. Scary.
