The franks were a Germanic tribe. Other locals would be Bretons.
No such thing as 'france' in 1066.
Conveniently omitting the Gauls there?
Whilst I know it wasn't called "France" until after 1066, the point is the Normans weren't Norse. They were a mix of Norse and the local populace of what we now know as France. So Franks, Gauls, some Bretons etc.
