Takeover Rumours

Alright Rivs. Nowt to say about the rest of it? Allardyce doesn’t have the track record of building clubs. He’s not interested in youth development, isn’t one for analytics and is too cosy with agents. He’s a good manager - better than Ross - but that’s not what’s needed right now. You keep talking about how the new owners will be big thinkers who are in it for the long haul and won’t do things by halves. Not sure getting Allardyce as their primary advisor would be good evidence of that tbh.
His whole management style is based on numbers and statistics.

Allardyce was excellent for us. Far from the dinosaur some people make out. Imagine what the club could do with the billionaires’ money and Big sams knowledge of sports science etc Imagine giving Big Sam half a million to spend in league one and he goes out and gets someone of Jan Kirchoffs quality and manages his injury problems so he’s playing most weeks. Imagine giving him just 1 mill more than we spent on Will Grigg and getting an athletic centre half who is fast and strong and clubs will offer us 18 million for just 6 months later. He has his faults Allardyce of course but he’s an ideal manager for Sunderland, one who could with the right backing maybe get us to mid table in the premier league. At that point if the new owners really really mean business and want to kick us on even higher yes, then by all means aim for a world class manager to try and get us into the premier league top 8 but that is a long way away.
I wouldn’t want Willie McKay anywhere near us

I was gutted when he left, the atmosphere around the club felt so good after the Chelsea and Everton games and it felt like we had turned the corner.

However, I don’t want him back at all. Never go back.

The saying is never go back....but if Ross is not the man & goes he probably represents the biggest & quickest chance of a return to the premier.....

by that time Pep will be bored at Man City & ready for a fresh challenge..........sorry started dreaming toward the end

He was fantastic with the non playing side as well. The difference when he left and Moyes came in was incredible

thats the biggest frustration with moyes, most managers come in following a mess & have to hit the ground running with a fresh plan to turn things around, we were going well, good atmosphere around the place......all he had to do was come in & follow on with very minor changes...plus he had the summer to do it!!!

Who broke the takeover story?....

Did you watch or go to the game yesterday? A large portion of support at the game were saying how utterly woeful it was to watch.
I watched it on a stream yesterday as I'm away. Having scrambled there way to a half time lead I thought JR would get them calmed down and tell them to get out there and destroy the pile of shite they playing. What followed was soul destroying and f***ing awful. Their continued inability to pass the ball 5 or 10 yards with the correct weight to assist the player supposedly receiving it is staggering. Theres an arrogance in journeyman footballers that doesn't bode well for us. If JR got stuck into them at HT down at Ipswich he better make this his usual banter before, during and after games as these are set of lazy brained fuckers who do not like to be stood up to and if they will not do as they are told drop them/get riding matter who they are McGeady/Leadbitter et all. And by the way Griggs miss at the end for fucks sake....

But we are winning games is the cry from the anti football squad. Its god damn f***ing painful to witness and the bloke in the touchline hadn't a clue. He looks good tho.

This whole thing on here of slagging off the recruitment team seems very in right now. I refuse to be one of them sheep. Disagree with the signing of will grigg did you? I think the squad that was assembled last year should have easily got promoted.

I know this isn't a response to me but I disagree with this. I personally didn't want Grigg either.

Last season Ross spent months saying he wanted a left sided defender and in January we went out and got Dunne (a right sided defender). We've now signed 7 CB's in about 14 months. We still don't have a left sided defender. We are playing Willis (another right sided CB there).

We've allowed James to leave, knowing Oviedo would follow, and ended up having to ring round and sign anyone that was available on deadline day so an academy product, who was struggling, wasn't the only left back at the club, and were so desperate we signed them injured.

We are playing a cm at right back because despite signing a specialist RB he's been awful and now has been dropped from the side.

We've signed defensive midfielder after defensive midfielder which Donald highlighted on twitter was a reason why the squad was so bloated it stopped us from signing anyone early in the window. Ross stated in the summer he wanted pace. We didn't bring any in.

We've paid massively over the odds on Ross' top target and he's on the bench every game.

We lost a winger on loan and haven't replaced them leaving us short of options out wide.

We've got the head of recruitment going to speed dating events because we are more interested in trying to avoid paying agents than we are in identifying targets and signing them.

The criteria for signings seems to be free and available and whilst some players are decent individuals, none of them look like a team, or have characteristics that compliment others, or work in partnerships because none of them seem to have been signed with any prior thought or suitability to identity.

Ross played a back 5 all summer and the beginning of the seaoan and played 3/4 players out of position in the first games because he signed nobody to play in the roles he'd decided would get us promoted.

Spot on. Only thing I’d add is that we clearly haven’t scouted some of these signings either (eg de bock). We haven’t watched the players we’ve brought in, just rang around our “contacts” asking for a handout

100% agree with all of this!

We're cut to the bone on recruitment, aren't we?

There's only 2 of them running the show

Aye, it's what I was hinting at with free and available. Last season can be excused to a degree but we've had a year to identify who/what we want and have still fell into the same trap.

The good news is that STRUCTURE is incoming! It’s sometimes difficult for a club to be able to afford structure in the lower leagues.

The new owners, if what we read is to be believed, will instil a professional model that will yield the right players for the right leagues I’m sure.

It’s easy to criticise the current camp but taking into consideration just what they took on (biggest basket case club in English football) and what we are now (on the brink of MSD investment) I think they have done a remarkable job. Maybe, just maybe, had we gone up last year These investors might have picked another club to fix...

I imagine the playing side will be sorted in Jan and we will be the finished article as far as a team looking for a promotion push is concerned. Let’s just hope that in Jan it’s still within touching distance.

Until then I’m simply going to sit down and strap in as it’s gonna be some ride!
