*~*~* Sunderland v Watford match thread *~*~*

Thoughts from the armchair (as usual, well done to our home crowd) boring but efficient first half then a superb goal. I’ve seen Len Ashurst, Joe Bolton and Dick Malone score from a full-back position but Huggins probably tops the lot tonight (although Dick’s 30 yard screamer was a sight to behold). Second half, one of consolidation and just when I was starting to agree with the “time to get Ba off” brigade, he leaps like a salmon and puts us two up. There’s a reason why managers are managers and spectators are spectators. Onwards and upwards, lets bring our best game on Saturday. FTM
Sorry mate. You can't beat Dick's run from the half way line and dink over the keeper against, I think, Portsmouth.

The day he scores 2, and then misses a penalty, will be the day he reaches Joes legend status marra😁

I dont think its negative to say it wasnt our best performance. Our ball carriers were a bit quiet and we were too slow in our buildup.

But to not play at our best and win comfortably is definitely progress and we just need to keep winning simple as that.

Poor game...poor attitude but 3 points..sometimes we need to be ugly I suppose.
Watford are a decent side who are more than capable of coming here and winning. I thought we controlled the game very well and were very good defensively and attacking. Impressed performance tonight and it definitely wasn’t a poor game, quite the opposite actually.

Blackburn were 8th when we beat them.

Also, are you for real? How the hell can you put a negative spin on being fourth?
Oh I'm for real.
I have watched the lads from the stands/seatsfor donkey's years. At times some of the best football i have seen from a Sunderland team, once again I am scared we will have the carpet pulled away.

That is not a negative post but an observation.

To be fair the teams we have beat, apart from Southampton, make up the bottom five.
We have been beat twice from teams above us.
This early in the season that’s a slightly self-fulfilling prophecy. The teams who have lost are lower and the ones who win are higher. It’ll be more meaningful in a few games’ time

Wonder what the idea of switching the full backs was about? Obviously it turned out fine just interesting to hear if TM wanted to give Huggins a try on his natural foot or if there was a watford threat they wanted to nullify.
It was definitely over the top to flip half the team because Pritchard who plays furthest forward but on the left of a midfield three was out. Roberts was brought in but played furthest forward on the right. Meant that when for our full back to tuck into midfield like Mowbray wants it needed to come from the other flank.
Took a while for our players to get used to that at the start but we won so he can do what he likes. But I don't like moving over half the team because Pritchard is missing.

Impressed with us tonight. That's how the Cardiff game should have gone. We were patient and professional throughout, a good win against a side that's likely in a false league position. If they can get their act together, they'll cause sides problems. However overall, I thought we made it look easy tonight.

Very pleased with that. Roll on Boro.

And outplayed both. We've also signed players since then and our squad is a lot stronger.

I'd say the difference this time though, is the consistency with which we play said best football.
