*~*~* Sunderland v Watford match thread *~*~*

I was so happy when I saw him get his new contract and he did that interview. You could see how much it meant to him. Great lad.

I doubted his prowess as first choice CB at the start of the season but he’s stepped up amazingly there. Gone are the rash challenges, gone are the caught out of formation moments…. He’s just bang on there with Ballard and you can see his presence on the pitch. O captain my captain
Said all along, he is a proper quality footballer, with a heart like a f***ing lion, and he bleeds red and white.
He just needed a run, in a stable position, instead of being the "go to" man to fill in where we were short.
We now have a squad that gives Uncle Tony the chance to give him a run in the same position, and the extra responsibility. And he f***ing loves it.
Very quickly becoming one of my all time favourites is Lukey Boy.😁

This early in the season that’s a slightly self-fulfilling prophecy. The teams who have lost are lower and the ones who win are higher. It’ll be more meaningful in a few games’ time
To be fair, it is just an observation on the season so far not a prophecy.

Tough win tonight.

I thought Watford looked good going forward, probably the best I’ve seen this season at the SoL, if they weren’t wasteful it would’ve been a different game.

Part of that was we gifted them the middle at times with our line up, they coasted through us time and time again.

Great attitude from the lads though, and finding a way to win tonight was a great sign.

A comfortable win against clearly a decent team, but low on confidence. Big shout out to Huggins, go on son you're bleeding Sunderland lad! Just wow, what a way to stake your claim.

It was definitely over the top to flip half the team because Pritchard who plays furthest forward but on the left of a midfield three was out. Roberts was brought in but played furthest forward on the right. Meant that when for our full back to tuck into midfield like Mowbray wants it needed to come from the other flank.
Took a while for our players to get used to that at the start but we won so he can do what he likes. But I don't like moving over half the team because Pritchard is missing.
Was less about Pritchard being missing and more about exploiting their weakness. Their right is a tidy player who was nullified by Hume, their right back is shit and exposed by Clarke all first half and was on track for a red. Clarke is decent at tracking back so allows Hume to move into midfield. Then down our right Ba likes to player further up the pitch and isn't as good covering but their left back and left winger are shit so easy to exploit, hence Ba turning him easily several times and Huggins goal.

Tactical genius. Moggaball.

Never felt so sick coming out after a win and seeing what was happening up the road.

We've had them going on about beating Barcelona for 25 years, we've got another 25 years of this now.
But but they have still won fook all.
It will all end in tears as soon as the big games that mean anything come round.
Last NE team to win a major trophy was ohh Safc you could of been in a coma since the 1960’s And fook all has changed
They won nowt we won FA cup and thats it really, a few cup finals and relegations., for both teams.

That might all well be true but no chance does Mowbray makes the call to flip the defence and midfield if Pritchard is available just to mark Tom Ince.

I have two culinary questions from tonight:

- What drinking vessels do the tartan blanket crew take into the East Stand? Was advised my son's metal thermos bottle would have been confiscated if he wasn't five years old.

- WTF is a "greedy burger"? I keep seeing it advertised on the vans and Google sheds no light.

Decent result, turgid first half not aided by Watford. Also the first time we've got soaked in the top row of the bottom tier in 18 months!
