*~*~* Sunderland v Watford match thread *~*~*

Wonder what the idea of switching the full backs was about? Obviously it turned out fine just interesting to hear if TM wanted to give Huggins a try on his natural foot or if there was a watford threat they wanted to nullify.

To be fair the teams we have beat, apart from Southampton, make up the bottom five.
We have been beat twice from teams above us.
While that is true, I’m not concerned Preston and Ipswich beat us. They were both games we dominated but could not score or often failed to play that final killer ball. We made our signings late and it is only now that this seasons team is really starting to shape up. We felt we only needed that little bit extra to have won those games we lost, and we look like we have that extra now.

I did think Huggins looked much better on the right.

Football is all about fine margins.
Id say our performance against Cardiff was more impressive than tonight. Tonight was a routine win where patto had little to do - cardiff - it just didn't go for us that day, though it brought out a lot of unnecessary negativity in some.
That's 3 defeats this season where we have been the best team in all 3 games. We can go far this yr

Thoughts from the armchair (as usual, well done to our home crowd) boring but efficient first half then a superb goal. I’ve seen Len Ashurst, Joe Bolton and Dick Malone score from a full-back position but Huggins probably tops the lot tonight (although Dick’s 30 yard screamer was a sight to behold). Second half, one of consolidation and just when I was starting to agree with the “time to get Ba off” brigade, he leaps like a salmon and puts us two up. There’s a reason why managers are managers and spectators are spectators. Onwards and upwards, lets bring our best game on Saturday. FTM

Plus getting laid out at the end of the first half, and then carrying on like nothing had happened. Bally would be proud of him. I'd love us to go up just so Luke could say he's a Premier League player.
I was so happy when I saw him get his new contract and he did that interview. You could see how much it meant to him. Great lad.

I doubted his prowess as first choice CB at the start of the season but he’s stepped up amazingly there. Gone are the rash challenges, gone are the caught out of formation moments…. He’s just bang on there with Ballard and you can see his presence on the pitch. O captain my captain
