*~*~* Sunderland v Watford match thread *~*~*

Never felt so sick coming out after a win and seeing what was happening up the road.

We've had them going on about beating Barcelona for 25 years, we've got another 25 years of this now.
Just think, a couple of years ago when they faced relegation the couldn't by a goal, now they can.

Know what you mean but got to just worry about ourselves and we look a really good, confident side.

Take the last 20 months or so, going back to getting humped 6 zip at Bolton. We’ve come a long way, and have an actual plan (never used to have these) that looks to be working.

Can’t really say anything to the Mags at this exact moment, they’ve had a hell of a result which no one really saw coming.

Honestly not one bit bothered about that lot right now. After the horror show that's been the last load of years, I'm just happy to be in a position to watch a squad who look together, are playing for each other and generally enjoying things again.

That we didn't seem to really get out of second gear and still win? Look at where we've been. I've no real issues. Maybe a bit more ruthlessness but hey I'm sure that will come in time.

Right now let them bluster and brag - focus on ourselves and enjoy the ride.

Piss off with that shite man. We've beaten a place best known for it's gap in the Championship, and then we come out the ground to hear they're 3-1 up v PSG. It deflated everyone. You probably weren't even there tonight.
What? Why do you even care what their pathetic state funded team is doing? Only time I give a shit about them is when we are playing them, or if they’re getting battered and having another meltdown and we can all laugh. Besides, PSG are an absolutely awful side nowadays who have both sold most of their team and have the other half of the team on strike and protesting various problems within the club. We’d beat them at present
So you didn't see us break down a side that had clearly come for a draw?

You didn't see a full back score a fantastic goal?

You didn't see a young, enthusiastic team playing controlled one touch football?

You didn't see them manage the game carefully to ensure a clean sheet?

You didn't see a perfectly executed, professional 2-0 victory with each and every player executing their roles and giving 40,000 people the comfortable home win they were thought to be incapable of?

You missed all of that then marra?
They didn’t clearly come for a draw at all. They played a high line and avoided the low block that normally ruins our day. Like I said pregame, whilst important to win this game (same for Boro too) isn’t indicative of our performance against the low block at home, which is what we struggle against so badly. We still looked very lethargic and slow on the ball and never looked like scoring before Huggins pulled a worldie out of the bag. Totally different game once we go ahead as it usually is as teams attack and we invariably win from that point.

Still not convinced we’ve worked out how to play against low block teams and how to create things beyond pass to Clarke and hope he scores a screamer but hopefully it’s something mowbrays still working on and the new strikers help in that regard

Don’t know if it’s been discussed but I just couldn’t understand why Mowbray didn’t bring the new forwards on earlier last night. We were in absolute control of the game and it would have been a perfect time to get the lads some minutes under their belts . It must have been frustrating as fuck to warm up and then be left on the line until injury time before being given a couple of pointless minutes .

I really am at a loss to describe the place the team is in right now to be able to play like they did. The moves that led to both goals were the stuff of fantasy years ago. We could never have pulled off that sequence of moves and just struck lightning quick like we did for the first goal in the way Huggins did and with the courage and confidence required to score the second when Ba leaped up like a salmon in a stream to head in the goal. Between our passing was very good. It was as it should be for a team where we are and with the aspirations of a team where we are. Where did it come from?

Would tend to agree with this - with one eye on the match against the mutants this weekend, it would have been the wiser decision.

The amount of closet mags here is frightening. Bet they're all 40/50 year olds with full bed sets, have a dog called shearer and chuck rocks at the mrs in the garden during the international break.
