*~*~* Sunderland v Watford match thread *~*~*

Excellent result that.
Thought we never really looked in danger but the final pass was just not there on quite a few occasions, which was a shame as we played some fantastic stuff.
Roll on Saturday, which should be a cracker

And there it is, the post that finally outs you. Congratulations.

There’s been plenty of evidence.

They should all support Boro or Hartlepool according to some on here. Too many waiting it all their own way. Happy enough to have lads fans in areas where Sunderland isn't the nearest team but take massive offense when people in places like Durham support them up the road.

Regarding Chester le street I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't closer to Newcastle than Sunderland. Certainly won't be much in it.

It wasn't an issue to us when we were in the Premier League. Even the mags didn't throw things down. Fans of lower league clubs clearly have less etiquette.

Every stadium they've chosen is 50k+ so looks like we were never really in the running. Shame as it would have been a massive boost to the city but as usual we get overlooked for them up the road.

There's 9,000 empty seats because the stadium is huge. People can decide on the day whether they want to turn up unlike up the road so we are easier to watch than they are. The SoL was hardly ever full in the PL days other than for a couple of seasons under Reidy so I'm not sure why its such a big deal now.

As I said, charging a quid doesn't necessarily get kids who are desperate to go to the match in. It gets people in who aren't that arsed and get bored after 10 mins and start making a nuisance of themsleves and start annoying the regular supporters. I've seen this more times than I care to remember at Cup games when it's dirt cheap to get in and I know people who don't bother with those games anymore for exactly that reason.

21st May 2022. One of the best days I've ever had. Probably one of the best supports and atmospheres the new Wembley has seen.

44k there for the Semi v Sheff Wed for another memorable night for all of us.

Didn't mean a thing to Neil though. Doesn't mean anything to the players or the directors either if truth be told. They'd all be off as soon as something else comes up.

Us fans are just pawns in a bigger game. We give, they take. We care about them, they couldn't care less about us.

I'm totally sickened by this. When Neil was appointed I said on here he would take us up when opinion on him was pretty split. He's an excellent manager and I thought he'd be here for the long haul. Instead he's jumping ship at the first opportunity, and for Stoke. One of the most pointless and boring clubs, in one of the most pointless and boring areas of the country.

To rub salt in the wounds it comes on the day them up the road pull out £60m for a new striker. It's like there's someone up there just permanently tormenting us. Honestly I'm 54 years old and I'm getting pig sick of it all. As soon as something good seems to be happening there's another kick in the bollocks to come along straight away.

Not about marking Ince mate, was about exploiting their defence
I'm happy it worked out, hopefully someone will ask the question to him, but there is no way any of those changes occur if Pritchard is playing. Its entirely down to how the press occurs without him and he obviously felt Roberts was his best bet but needed to switch the entire team to accommodate that.
Feels massively over complicated.
I think we need Adil up to speed pretty quickly, need Cirkin trained up to do the Hume role so we have options with full backs. Obviously Huggins hs been great but was terrible at that role in the states and we've signed a flying full back who is best over lapping.
But now I sound like im moaning and im not ive loving the way we are playing!

That's a fair point like, he probably wouldn't make them changes. But it worked and one of the players swapped over scored so he obviously knows something more than us. We won easily in the end.

I’ve been impressed with Burstow, I know he hasn’t scored but he’s been doing all the right stuff otherwise.
I’ve heard it all now,how the Fock can anyone be impressed by him, Jesusssss!

Said all along, he is a proper quality footballer, with a heart like a f***ing lion, and he bleeds red and white.
He just needed a run, in a stable position, instead of being the "go to" man to fill in where we were short.
We now have a squad that gives Uncle Tony the chance to give him a run in the same position, and the extra responsibility. And he f***ing loves it.
Very quickly becoming one of my all time favourites is Lukey Boy.😁
The French league is bloody weird this year. Lyon are currently in the bottom 3

That first 40 mins was really frustrating, a lot of slow sideways and backwards shite with no change of tempo and playing off far too many touches. Generally it was far too easy for Watford to keep their shape and we struggled to break through. The times we got in it lead to a poor decision at the crucial moment and the chance was lost. Namely Jobe not shooting first time at the edge of the box and then Burstow choosing to try the backheel instead of a shot. It took a moment of individual quality and I'm over the moon for Huggins, he'll have had some really tough times out injured wondering if he'd ever be right and that showed the potential of the lad. He was superb tonight, provided great support going forward, was as solid as you like defensively and scored a class goal.

Second half I felt we controlled it well, obviously the second goal was important for us and gave us that breathing space. We looked a threat on the break and could have ended up with more than two. We frustrated them and they took a couple of petulant cards.

Its a good three points for us. MoM - Niall Huggins.

Tough win tonight.

I thought Watford looked good going forward, probably the best I’ve seen this season at the SoL, if they weren’t wasteful it would’ve been a different game.

Part of that was we gifted them the middle at times with our line up, they coasted through us time and time again.

Great attitude from the lads though, and finding a way to win tonight was a great sign.
Balance wasn't right tonight. Roberts completely wasted playing central midfield. Although Ba scored would much more of preferred Roberts on the right and Aouch starting or even Rigg.

Was working so missed it.

Sounds like the game generally was great but we lacked any real threat and the goals for you were far too easy .

Once ahead it was pretty comfortable for you ?
