He called me a right wing racist based on something I hadn't read and I'm being harsh with that reply. Hmm.Jesus mate, a bit harsh. When I'm back in Sunderland I do actually drink in Josephs and Sinatra's and that other place further up towards Park Lane. And I see some lost souls. All with their own story. There but for the odd bits of huge fortune I've enjoyed is me.
But real people. And they get slated on this board.
Some of the bars and places on the costa's that I think @alicante mackem is referring to, hard to describe so I'll pick my words carefully, best I can. They are are on a different level. These aren't just lost souls, some of them, not all, but it is the modern day equivalent of Hell.
Some saint once described Hell as a place without love. I've been in bars over here where the only glue is hatred, hatred of what they see the UK has become. Hatred of anyone that they see as not being like themselves. Raging. They see the UK as this multi-cultural shit-hole, the old certainties lost, and now they are in a foreign country and they despise, loathe, and are suspicious of their hosts. But at least Spain really is not that multi-cultural (believe it or not). Not a lot of Muslims or Paki's or Blacks here is the view, just these ferking Dago's.
There is, just, a strand of British Imperialism amongst some ex-pats that persists. A visceral hatred of the other. And in some enclaves at the risk of repeating myself I know exactly what the OP is driving at.
