South Africa v England 1st test - Centurion

Obvious problem is the first innings deficit. Lost by basically that exact margin. We had the best of the batting conditions in the first two days and to get bowled for 181 you can’t expect to win a match. If we matched their first innings, which we would have if we played normally instead of stupidly, we would have had a great chance.

Credit to South Africa, don't think we batted that badly pitch was misbehaving quite a bit. Decision to bowl first was pretty odd and becoming quite familiar under Root

England from No 5 downwards are just not good enough with the bat, we have 3 no 11s too. Look at the SA's lineup they bat right down, when we were at our best we batted down to 10 time to look at that again as I dont believe there is much between our bowlers in the squad time for some hard decisions.

Reasonable in the second innings, and they get some leeway because of the illnesses etc

Decision to bowl was baffling
111/5 and they let them off was frustrating
Picking Bairstow was a disgrace, 2 failures (inc 1 minging shot), hardly a surprise
Poor with the bat first up
Gave up with the ball second time round
Credit to Burns and Denly for application.

As daft as this may seem, still think we have a really good chance in this series, mainly because think South Africa are a poor side imo, Markham out for the rest of the series you would think Archer,Anderson and Broad really should be too good for their batting line up.

England from No 5 downwards are just not good enough with the bat
Stokes, Bairstow and Buttler all average 35 or under, not good enough at Test level, and despite some great knocks are all capable of giving it away.

On current form only Burns, Denly (surprisingly) and Root look the part.
