SCARBOROUGH questions

  1. Does anyone live there?
    Any pros or cons?
Which is the best airport to use for international travel?
How long to get to Sunderland by road? by public transport?
    Any good estate agents?
    Anything else?

Don’t know if you are being serious but I wouldn’t wish a visit to Scarborough on my biggest enemy.

    My cousin does.

I can find some info out for you.

Driving, 1:30 max. Airport, Leeds, Manchester or Newcastle.

Easy to get around the place but train is normally a journey to York then onwards.

Gets incredibly busy in the summer. Tacky seafront and streets just off and run down in a lot of areas similar to most coastal towns. Unlike ours which is lovely.

  4. Why not?
I've been a few times but it was a while back. The thing I liked about it was that although it is a seaside town it is an all round the year place too, ie not just a summer holiday resort. It looked big enough to be interesting.

  5. No, but I'd love to.
    Leeds / Bradford
1h 40m via Boro & Whitby (great open country roads on the A171)
The train is via York and is well in excess of 3hrs, even if you get the connections cock on.
    No idea.
If you're buying a house, get one with a spare room or two that you can let. You'll make a packet.

    You're welcome.

  6. Are those airports better than say Heathrow and Stanstead?

I once went on a end of season football do down Scarborough in May 2015, Friday to Sunday IIRC.

Got that pissed on the Friday night I ended up back in a student house with a lass, who had a butch mate that kicked me out five minutes after arriving for some reason.

As I exited the property, the taxi driver was still outside waiting as I'd apparently bumped his fare. I made it look like I was going into me pocket for money but just began legging it. Ended up running around a mile and ended up in some field on a hill overlooking Scarborough town centre.

By this point it was about 2am, my phone had died, I had no idea what our hotel was called and no real sense of direction in my intoxicated state, so once panic set in I found a relatively upmarket residential street and one house had an upstairs light on.

I knocked on the door, an old woman in her 80s answered, I explained to her what the crack was and she could see how panicked I was. She took me in, ordered me a taxi, offered me a gin & tonic which I kindly declined in case she was trying to roofy me.

Taxi turned up in five minutes, with a brief description to the taxi driver of what my hotel looked like we finally managed to find it.

Absolutely incredible night but still disappointed I didn't get off with the student bird.

Hope all of the above helps.

Not even remotely but... Living up here we have very little in the way of international airports on our doorstep. They will almost certainly be a connection unless you’re off to Benidorm or somewhere.

This was my thinking mind.

It would have been a better tale if the taxi driver was the one you'd legged it from.

  16. Just stayed there last weekend. My sister has a flat just off the Esplanade she rents out. Lovely old Victorian building which has been redeveloped.

Heathrow and Stanstead are 2 funny airports to put together. Like saying are Sunderland better than Man City and Burnley

Manchester is of course a better airport than Stanstead.

    Grew up there......Best airport teeside.....

85 mins by road to sunderland but the roads are fucking horrific whether you go via Whitby or Sutton bank....If you have anybody in the car who gets travel sick then you are in for a treat cause the roads rock and roll all the way....Worse in summer when caravans heading to coast and can mean you end up stuck behind them at 40mph.

Not sure of estate agents now as been gone some time.

Great place, very insular, amazing countryside on your doorstep (Cleveland way can be accessed from Town and can walk right up the coast.

Crime can be a problem as with many seaside towns as smack rats from West Yorks/Teeside head for bed sits by the sea.

Labour market not the best as with most small places and the roads in and out are that bad in all directions it is not realistic to be working in the nearest big towns/cities (Middlsbrough, York etc.)

I loved living there and it is a brilliant place for kids to grow up but what tends to happen is that once they hit 18 they leave and live elsewhere due to job situation.

It takes forever just to drive to York and the trains are also shit.
