Some thoughts
Russia threatening nukes this is normally a sign you can't win the land war - see Nato - USSR 1960-1990 where we depended on nukes to deterre the Red Army as they'd be in Paris in days otherwise. Unless he is just itching to fire a non nuke hypersonic at a Carrier, that would be a game changer globally.
He is desperate to keep us out as a shock and awe NATO response could have us in Moscow by tea time - we don't need to take cities street to street as we aren't staying.
But none of this makes sense other than Russia is facing an existential crisis in the next twenty years as it is wedded to selling fossil fuels and it's customers are wedded to not using them.
He should have stopped being a c**t and offered diplomatic olive branches to the EU while maintaining in good relations with China, he could increased his Gas exports to China as the EU wean themselves off gas, and China wean themselves off coal.

He could have really pushed Russia on as global warming kicks in and with such vast thawing out land he could make use of it. Maybe he could have increased his empire that way.

Who knows, with that approach he may have one day been accepted into NATO himself.

Instead, through arrogance and rage, he has completely f**ked Russia and its citizens for a long time. Russia will never win now with him in charge. Whether that is through diplomatic means or MAD, he has lost.

You have posted odd things on this thread. I have huge sympathy for the Russian soldiers who don’t want to be there. But in terms of things to feel passionate and angry about I’m far more concerned about Ukrainian children being carried out dead from burning buildings then I am about Jeremy Vine’s views on adult soldiers who voluntarily joined the Russian army.

The stingers it seems are very good for Urban warfare. A bit like the anti tank stuff the West has sent.

They need to have visual on an enemy fighter but apparently very effective for being holed up in a tower block or city building for an ambush and stops enemy aircraft spending too long over cities as it gives time for forces with these Manpads to get setup, track them and get a lock on

Ie if it flies over Ukrainian troops in rural areas they wouldn’t have time to get it out and fire. If a fighter jet is circulating a city looking for targets then they are at risk of being hit

definitely going to be an interesting few days. i hope they can hold out around kyiv. war is f***ing awful, but countries always have a right to defend themselves and I include the places "we've" attacked in that statement as well.

don't ask what you ask for as you may get it

I didn't "side step" anything, I just thought it was so silly and pointless an implication that it didn't warrant an answer.

Every single western country has large numbers of trained, professional soldiers whose job it is to - you know, be soldiers.
And they an awful lot of trained commanders, generals, war experts, etc, etc whose job it is it to know when to engage troops on the ground…they haven’t, I prefer to trust their judgement and reasoning than yours tbh.

Yeah, some of these "donations/bribes" would struggle to buy you a two year old BMW.
Sure I read that Matt Hancock had a Zoom meeting with Tory Donors during the pandemic to tell them about NHS contracts etc. (so they can invest in the right companies) and I'm sure it was ÂŁ10k they had to have donated to be on the call or something. Absolutely nothing, they probably all made that on the stock market within ten mins based on the knowledge they learned.

You can have sympathy for both ya knar.

Noticed a couple of NATO but more USAF from small (DUKE..) to large (LAGR, REDEYE..). Even though I know little about what they're doing (other than some useful info @MonkeyLove provided) it's fascinating following them.
LAGR/NACHO will be refuelling fast jets, there's also been a UK Tanker or two up most days. The rest of the heavies/Duke/Forte etc will be intelligence gathering of some sort.

If you can't see the issue with jeremy Vine right there I'd say you're also part of the problem.

You can. But those same Russian soldiers in artillery battalions are also doing things like this. I appreciate they are only taking orders but personally I have far more sympathy for the people in this apartment block..

Not really.

The invasion ends in one two ways:

1. The Russians all turn around, go home, and Putin accepts Ukraine is a democratic sovereign nation.

2. The Russian army is defeated, whixh ultimately means every Russian soldier which enters Ukraine is killed.

The first doesn’t look like happening, so in the interests of victory for the free world we have to hope the second does.

Every dead Russian soldier is one death closer to victory for the free world against Putin’s tyranny. Of course it’s sad for the relatives who will be left to mourn. But their anger should be directed at Putin, not at Ukrainian fighters who are just doing what needs to be done.
