Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

You have posted odd things on this thread. I have huge sympathy for the Russian soldiers who don’t want to be there. But in terms of things to feel passionate and angry about I’m far more concerned about Ukrainian children being carried out dead from burning buildings then I am about Jeremy Vine’s views on adult soldiers who voluntarily joined the Russian army.

I get you but I don't know how many of them voluntarily joined. Many will be conscripts.

Are you George Galloway?

Are you for real? Can we not accept that John Terrys entire adult and footballing life has been defined at Chelsea and a relationship with Abramovich, which has obviously blossomed during that with augmented success on the football pitch?

I wouldn't call him out for the image. But it's tasteless at best under the circumstances and obviously just posted to antagonise.

Who cares. To copy from my last post, every dead Russian soldier is one death closer to victory for the free world against Putin’s tyranny. Of course it’s sad for the relatives who will be left to mourn. But their anger should be directed at Putin, not at Ukrainian fighters who are just doing what needs to be done.

Not really.

The invasion ends in one two ways:

1. The Russians all turn around, go home, and Putin accepts Ukraine is a democratic sovereign nation.

2. The Russian army is defeated, whixh ultimately means every Russian soldier which enters Ukraine is killed.

The first doesn’t look like happening, so in the interests of victory for the free world we have to hope the second does.

The hottest of hot takes.

Get that, but come on. Read the room, John. Abramovich is a Putin mobster.

In fairness the caller was also pointing out that conscription in Russia is mandatory and not a case of saying "no thanks"

You can't. As evidenced.
You can have sympathy for the families and friends of everyone who dies on both sides.

That doesn’t detract from the fact that killing Russian soldiers has to be done to defeat Putin and therefore, as long as the invading force is in Ukraine, the more who are killed the better.

Can you have sympathy for the deceased as well?

F1 has terminated its contract with the Russian GP and it won’t have one going forward.

3. The economic sanctions on Russia, plus a military stalemate, forces internal pressure and a political back down in Russia.

Also to your point. Death isn't the only way an army is defeated. A breakdown in logistics/ a lack of equipment can also force Putins hand. Tanks putting out of petrol, being abandoned on the side of the road, etc. is a good sign that Russia can't keep going forever. Also, Russian soldiers surrendering (which admittedly is something highlighted more in western media at the moment) is a positive too.

Also, more generally, it's absolutely ok to feel sorry for the Ukrainian people, hate war and death. While also not wishing death on young lads. Anger/ hate should be directed at Putin.

No, just no to ‘the more killed the better’. Get the sentiment but it’s an abhorrent way to look at it.
