Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Genuine question cos my knowledge of NATO has gone from very little to a little more in a few days, what does it matter if more countries join? Surely that helps with the aim of peace?

NATO aren't sending troops across boarders and firing missiles into houses. It's not like by joining NATO Ukraine would suddenly become a big threat is it?

War is ugly & I'm not defending anything. But for perspective, this article puts civilian deaths from USA air strikes in middle East at 22,000. That is a fair old number.

This is the first action remotely close to our doors in the camera phone age.

The worrything thing is that when the fighting ends and if Russia gain control then the purges will begin and people will disappear.

100%

BBC coverage has been a 'shit' today on this. Had on, mostly just in the background, for most of the day. Lots of interviews etc but unless I've missed it very little footage of what is happening on the ground has been shown. Via Twitter I have seen plenty - both uploaded from the public but also from other news outlets around the world.

Reactions: den
Why shouldn’t any of them be able to join? They’re independent nations and free to do what they like.
exactly this, but no doubt he'll reply with some guff about 'Cuba' without realising the difference between

a: the stationing of nuclear missiles in Cuba as opposed to sale/provision of defensive armaments to Ukraine
b: the political reality of just how the US operates in its own backyard

but thats no different to now he'll say - why cant Russia interfere with their neighbours, America did it 60 years ago

i think he's cracked (or as someone else has said a sockpuppet for a WUM)

Other news outlets don’t have the same standards of verifying third party footage.

“Accept it’s place”.

So basically you are saying Ukraine should have given in to a threatening bully rather than following its own desired course of action.

Very strange.
If they'd taken a different path they wouldn't have part of the Russian military using their home forces for target practice.

When it comes to international politics bullying is exactly what happens.

Ukraine is now being whipped into line and will probably be under Putins heel until he croaks.

There's not a damn thing any of us are going to do about it which is why Vlad is thumbing his nose at us.
