Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

This would still be happening if Ukraine wasn’t trying to join NATO.
I'm not sure there'd be war.

If Ukraine had accepted its place within the Russian sphere of influence its unlikely that people would be cowering in basements all over Ukraine.

It's like they weren't watching what happened to Georgia

FT reporting that the UK is pushing to cut the Russians out of the Swift banking system. Russia expected to throttle back gas and oil supplies in response.

You do know what the US response is to a sinking of a carrier? You got 4 minutes to work it out.
The very reason that has never been tested, is the reason it has never happened, like the nuclear deterrent. But it is still only a threat of a response. Huge difference between a threat and action.

The elected Pro-Russian government was overthrown when they refused to turn their back on Russia in favour of the EU. The coup was supported by many in the West, but lots of Ukraine were against it, particularly the Russian speaking areas with strong ties to Russia. Russia moved in to support some of these areas - Crimea etc.

Russia are ultimately responsible for war, but what the hell were the EU (and NATO) thinking?! These organisations were meant to be about peace, not endless expansion.

2004 you muppet and the Ukraine is not a member of the EU or NATO in 2022.

The outcome is the same. Putin expanding his own personal influence over Europe in the name of the Russian people.

They don’t want to be part of Russia.

I'd rather listen to the Un than some media outlet harking back to treaties and friendships of yesteryear as justification for an illegal invasion

dear
The UN won't provide visibility of the broader picture - merely a relatively narrow view.

Look at them all and make your own mind up.

That's what Parm was saying.

He's under domestic political pressure and is looking for a quick fix. Russian economy has been crippled badly recently partly to do with covid and no signs of recovery unlike here for instance.

His demeanour and public behaviour changing in the last few weeks/months has been startling like compared to his behaviour mainly over the majority of the last 2 decades. Part of me thinks he's becoming mentally unwell, possibly early dementia or something. Looks ****ing unhinged.

Agree as people said above Vlad could possibly have dementia or is mentally ill and this could be behind him looking to reunite the Soviet union

but they don't want to be part of it that's the point. As a democratic nation they have the right not to have the closest country keep taking bits off them

“Accept it’s place”.

So basically you are saying Ukraine should have given in to a threatening bully rather than following its own desired course of action.

Very strange.
