been plagued by hamstring/abductors tightness for years though best thing i've done is standing tall rather than hunched over whilst running. also opening out my hips, stretching them out vertically whilst running.
I get same problem. I stand tall but then as I tire I start to hunch. My glutes don't fire at all and my lower back and abductors end up doing all the work.

When you say stretching out your hips, how do you mean?

hard to explain but its kind of standing tall not by just sticking your shoulders back but tall from your hips so that they too are pushed forwards(?!).
also, tons of youtube stuff for glute/core exercises for runners.

Well what a shite day for me, was ment to do the M2N but I totally got everything wrong I thought pick up for the bus was at start fitness Newcastle, got there and no one about, ran around Newcastle trying to find were it was with no luck, so no marathon just went home and did a training run, going to do Sunderland doorstep marathon in a few weeks as all my hard work training ain't going to waste

Clazey’s Doorstep Events

It’s back and they’re bigger than ever!!

Clazeys Door Step Marathon was created back in 2008. Graeme Clazey had gone to Luton to run the Luton Marathon, he was raising funds for the Chemo Unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital following his excellent treatment there the previous year.

...
Unfortunately, due to a road traffic accident, the race was cancelled whilst hundreds of runners were standing on the start line. Graeme was, naturally, very disappointed as he had generated lots of sponsorship. He didn’t think it was right that he collected peoples donations when he hadn’t actually run the marathon. So, along with fellow Strollers, he decided to do a long Sunday run - well about 26.2 miles to be exact, so that the money could still be raised.

On Sunday 7 December 2008 Graeme Clazey, Phil & Lesley Watson, Malcolm Cox, Kevin O'Neil & Stephen Gill all ran around the Sunderland/South Tyneside area and completed the first 'DOOR STEP MARATHON' they were supported by Julie, Phil Tweddle, John Wilson and Trish O'Neil.

From this small start an annual event has grown in popularity and has raised over £8000 of much needed cash for the Phoenix Unit. The event is not a race but an opportunity to run with friends and raise money for a deserving cause. It’s open to Strollers and non-Strollers alike.

This ninth year, the runs start and finish at SUNDERLAND YACHT CLUB located at the Marina, this is the first time we have incorporated a 10k run so lots of people can get involved. There is ample parking and there are showering and changing facilities within the Club along with somewhere to store your kit.

The marathon will start at 9am, the half marathon at 11am and the 10K at 12 noon – in that way everyone should be finishing at roughly the same time. After the event there are refreshments served in the Club which include hot Sunday Sandwiches - bacon/egg/sausage and hot drinks – all provided courtesy of Club funds.
For those of you who fancy a well deserved tipple, the bar will also be open – the Club won’t be buying!

The cost of all entries is £20 per person, all finishers receive a T-Shirt. Every penny of your entry fee will go to charity.

Did the Leeds Abbey Dash 10K on Sunday. My first ever 10K. took it easy-ish and got 55.07. Not bad for 16 stone 44yo! And only the second time I'd run that distance without stopping at any stage. Great course that as well as you get to watch the elites come down.

I did it too. not as perfectly flat as I remember it and defo an ugly one for the sights. not impressed with the loop into the retail park.well organised though.

anybody after a good 10k... Heaton memorial 10k this sunday (newcastle town moor), pretty fast route apart from one ballache where you run round some tape/cone to do a u turn.... was fairly windy last year and it gets quite exposed to the elements but according to the forecast sunday its almost ideal conditions... so worth doing for anyone after a good race

certainly not a pretty run (except the glimpse of the abbey!) but running past the elites and then the backmarkers was fun. Lots of runners from our club doing it so that was good.

can't get rid of an ankle ligament injury. 5-6 weeks now since it happened and just can't shake it. have tried a few gentle runs but then it flares up again. been making up for it by eating too much and being generally unhealthy. need to start get a plan together to start building towards brighton marathon.

Hello, is there a route map of the Mara anywhere and is it well marked on the day?

You free of niggles again mate ?
I've started training again mate , but where club do 3 sessions a week , I've startered doing 2 watered down sessions a week (like half the reps/intensity) and to be honest I think a lot of what they do is a young mans game where recover much better anyway, its not or this old man

I'm just gone 47 and only been running for 4-5 years in total - 3-4 with a club. When I started out I was running the traditional 'sessions' and racing on the road over 5k-HMP. Even though I did all the stuff i was told to do about recovery and rest etc I was constantly injured - it was like one thing after the next and started to really piss me off. Around 2 years ago I got into trail running and then ultra marathons. I run more miles in training now than ever, still do 2 'sessions' a week and (touching my head / wood) ive been injury free ever since. The difference for me has been running my efforts at like 10k or HMP pace rather than 3k, 5k etc. Its made a massive difference and kept me fit. Maybe my 5k time might not be a good now (although I suspect it might) but what's the point in running a 15min 5k if you can only do it once a year as the other 51 weeks you're injured !

I think there might be a map on the website - not too sure. You could fire a message over to the organiser.
