Not that it was easy to get to, no real borders to cross and that the Irish cops were known to be a disorganised rabble? A large group of Sunderland fans were present iirc.

The ineptitude of the Irish police in managing that game didn’t help though. England’s reputation was known for bother

FIL was at the game and still maintains that the Gardai were at fault for the trouble because of the way they managed the crowd. He was underneath the flying chairs being pelted down.

Placing them where they did at lansdowne didn’t help at all either

Of course they were ffs.

Placing fans with an appalling history of violence above families in a stadium wasn’t the smartest move in the world though.

Back to the main point, England does not have a rivalry with Ireland at football.

It’s a minor one with the rugby team as well.

We do. It's not as great as other rivalries but it's still a rivalry nonetheless

Disagree. The rivalry may be more important to them but there is still a rivalry from our end .
Imo it's absolute nonsense to dismiss it. You just have to look on here when Ireland played in the Euros and how many wanted them to lose

There were many more wanting to see them win mind you than wanting them to go out.

You wouldn’t want a rival to do well.

It’s more of a dislike of their team and “zany” supporters from our side than rivalry for me.
