NUFC/Sportswashing - Summer 2022

We agree on most things but not this - you reap what you sow.
Nah, for me it's a football greed thing and not just the mags reaping what they sow. We had sellouts in the few good seasons and the ground was extended but it's not been constantly sold out ever since. The positive of that is it can allow for crowd size fluctuation. If we stayed on 42,000 and didn't extend but stayed mid table having a brief sniff of European places then it's a given prices would have crept up until demand was enough to still get sellouts.

We did extend which was great for fans but we didn't stay up there long and demand went down. Our ticket prices have been some of the cheapest in the Premier League but that's due to lack of sellouts. If we'd been up there selling out then there's no doubt our tickets would possibly price out many fans on lower budgets.

In our last PL season, we averaged 41k and made £9 million gate receipts so averaged £220 per fan. In the 2015 books, Southampton made £18m and averaged £580 per fan and that's 2 seasons prior. I didn't look at their 2017 numbers as they got £22m but that was helped by Europe also. Our 2015 numbers were just over £10m and about £240 per fan, so Southampton's £580 per fan is nearly 2.5 times our amount.

We both have a decent hard core set of fans up here that will go no matter what and we both have huge fan bases. We've have both had little success in the last 50 years but any sniff of owt like they had in the 90's or we briefly had those 2 seasons then we show the true potential numbers.

We can't do it like Man City, PSG and Chelsea have done. But we can definitely, at the very least, expand the so called Top 6 into a Top 7. If we recruit staff and players well, spend money where it needs to be spent and don't make the same mistakes those clubs did/do.

Look at the business we've done so far. It's not splashing the cash on expensive names that might not necessarily fit the short term aims, like Robinho. It's signings that will take us to the next step,
Dubravka -> Pope,
Clark -> Burn,
Lascelles -> Botman,
Manquillo -> Trippier,
Dummett -> Targett
Shelvey -> Bruno
Gayle-> Wood

These aren't the kind of explosive signings the pundits were expecting us to make, they're sensible, incremental improvements across the squad. That says to me that this is a considered approach.

Thank you for proving my point.

I can imagine MBS sitting down with a nice cold can of Heineken 0% after a hard days chopping. Better check Twitter. One of the Geordies has prepared a tribute. Belting.

But what is this! His Sportswasher-in-Chief doing the housework in pissy undercrackers as she dusts with a NUFC scarf?! f***ing infidels!

Behind the scarf Geordies ride on a magic carpet with a giant dog, animals which are haram and an insult to Islam.

Symbols of western decadence - cherry bakewells, baked potatoes, meatball marinaras and hot dogs - decorate the scene in case the other insults miss their mark.

Cans in the bin and absolutely fuming!

Sensible post. All of the above are an upgrade and exactly how you would want to go about your business.

Throwing money at marquee names who will probably be nothing more than mercenaries will only upset the apple cart with their high wages and poor dedication to the team/manager affecting the squads morale.

Much better to grow organically and have a sensible wage budget allowing the team to grow and improve together in a sustainable manner without players causing a mutiny.

Man Utd a prime example throwing money at players like Sanchez, pogba and Ronaldo over recent years without thinking about the bigger picture and upsetting the morale of the team in the process

do you think the new signings play for free ?

If reports are correct then the top earners are on a maximum of 100k a week, well below Ronaldos reported wage of 510k last season.

Previous top earners were reported at 80k per week (joelinton and shelvey I believe)

So to only go up by 20k in top earners is sensible and not what I would describe as mercenary like wages

Feel free to disagree if you wish

tell me that's not true about shelvey :eek::eek::eek::eek:

From last night’s chronicle (haven’t noticed it on here…)

The levels this man could go to 👀

🗣" I’ve been listening to Bill Shankly tapes a lot. He talked a lot about a 19-year-old Diego Maradona and how he slows down in the penalty area, exactly like Elliot Anderson does. He's such a talent." - 𝘑𝘰𝘦𝘺 𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘰𝘯

I disagree with someone pretending to be an SAFC supporter for 8 years on here when he's a Mag you sad person

100k+ signed a petition, some idiots went to Parliament...what do they think would happen? Their club is gone and secretly they will be wishing for the return of Mike Ashley!

If they had multi-million sponsorship deals up their sleeve they could have slashed season ticket prices and done cheap tickets for kids/NE postcodes but of course they aren't.Won't be long until AS can't go to games when it goes sour....please God a mag as got an AS tattoo?

“Grow organically and have a sensible wage budget”. What a load of crap. Without the heavy Saudi subsidy, Newcastle could never afford to spend a few hundred million and attempt to break into the top 6. It’s all about the Saudis pumping in millions in return for mugs like yourself defending their atrocities.

I would have thought it obvious.

Part of the moderators' role on here is to keep the peace.

The moment you cross over the line of defending NUFC and stray into piss taking territory then you're history.

Honest question and not being arsey. Is piss taking now not acceptable ? Is that not what a rivalry should be about ?

Understood.

I should have been more clear and I have in the past on this thread.

We obviously expect a bit of piss taking, but if us mods determine that a poster's main intent is to simply wind up SAFC fans then he/she won't last long.

When in Rome etc...
