Tickets were given to schools in North Tyneside and I'd personally had a stepbairn come back home with a letter offering them during the mid-naughties.

Having said that, I'm having difficulty in remembering what specific season that was, as they were yo-yoing at the time they would have been at Primary school.

Dunno if Newcastle's offer is due to a boycott, people being disillusioned with football in general, or folk being skint.

Wasn't it something like if the school sold so many tickets they kept a percentage of the money - trying to work out if there were any free tickets. It was something like 10 or 15 pounds for an adult and a fiver for kids but the mags hijacked this and the whole of the SoL was filled with freebies. I can't ever remember any kids getting free tickets just the adult offer which was really good value for the Premiership.

Will try and get a few bites from the mags at work about this - free tickets with happy meals and all that.

So some fans of North East teams have to choose between paying for the pub league or watching premier league for nowt. That's a hard financial decision for neutrals. Another generation lost by SAFC mismanagement rather than a giveaway from up the road.

It was that long ago, I can't remember specifics, could've been the club being charitable and inclusive. It was definitely a one-off as well.

To be balanced, I've never experienced a time where getting tickets has been especially difficult, other than right before the ground was extended. The whole 'Geordies live and breathe their football' thing is utter bollocks. Most people would rather spend £30 or whatever on something else.

Like to act it but it's just from years of smoke being blown up arse.

Mags as well not Geordies.

Don't like being associated with those dimwits

Quite a few on Twitter kicking off about their loyalty being rewarded by giving away something they have paid around £400 to have for nothing.

‘For being a mindless sheep and still going to games you can reward one of the traitors that has abstained for absolutely nothing’

Traitors? I thought it was a boycott (sic)?

To a Sunderland game or Newcastle?

I'm from Tyneside can't remember any free Sunderland tickets in school mind. Would have took one if so as I was only 1 or 3 Sunderland fans in my School

I remember early/mid 90s my primary school in Shields getting then mind... used to draw then out of a hat. I was buzzing when my name got pulled out and got to see Bret Angel in his pomp 😂

Can someone put me right on this even the Sunderland have started to believe that lot up the road that the club gave away all these free tickets.
Yes there were a lot of freebie corporate tickets knocking about when we were in the Premiership but any company who had a box or sponsored the club would expect that. The free ticket thing the mags picked up on was the kids for a fiver scheme. Adults bought a ticket for a tenner and you received a kids ticket for a fiver. So really it was 15 quid for an adult and child iirc. The idiots up the road, read that as there were thousands of kids free tickets. Sure there must have been free tickets knocking about, players, ex-players etc but don't a lot of clubs do that. This free ticket thing the scum perpetuate is a load of bollocks - isn't it ?
Nah there was shitloads knocking about tbf

Big mike gives away some half season tickets

Ellis short gives away safc lock stock and barrel to a couple of chancers,

I know the one I think is funniest

Lad I know said he isn't pleased as a season ticket holder he's getting nothing for loyalty and basically anyone who hasn't been loyal etc is getting a freebie. He's right mind to be fair
