Tickets were given to schools in North Tyneside and I'd personally had a stepbairn come back home with a letter offering them during the mid-naughties.
Having said that, I'm having difficulty in remembering what specific season that was, as they were yo-yoing at the time they would have been at Primary school.
Dunno if Newcastle's offer is due to a boycott, people being disillusioned with football in general, or folk being skint.
Wasn't it something like if the school sold so many tickets they kept a percentage of the money - trying to work out if there were any free tickets. It was something like 10 or 15 pounds for an adult and a fiver for kids but the mags hijacked this and the whole of the SoL was filled with freebies. I can't ever remember any kids getting free tickets just the adult offer which was really good value for the Premiership.
Will try and get a few bites from the mags at work about this - free tickets with happy meals and all that.
