I am really trying to be fair to them and understand what Ashley has really done that they hate. The Hall/Shepherd business model was about to fall apart and they could easily have done a Portsmouth - obviously without winning anything.

I would imagine their current finances are amongst the top 10 best in British football.

Two words: Net Spend

The average Mag seems to have more difficulty than most in comprehending that Mike doesn't have a Magic Money Tree in his back garden, and that what is bought has to be paid for from somewhere.
The Gift That Keeps on Giving :D

What a lot of people forget is Mike is a business man. If he has chance of a sale of the club on the grounds in remains in the premier League, if Rafa is failing he will sack him.
He doesnt care what the fans think, and rightly so as they are idiots but this is an investment to Ashley and he will run as he sees fit. Quite frankly, any other club they would have sacked their manager after the money he has spend and over 3 seasons only 2 points and I cant see them beating Southampton or Watford.

Watford could be his demise

I don't think he will; if only to avoid the pay-off.
Same reason why Rafa won't walk.
Mexican Stand Off.

Dreading the drop: A reason for each of the Premier League's bottom five to be fearful

Newcastle United (20th)
A lack of a Plan B

Some would argue there is not an obvious Plan A at Newcastle, but this seems a team without ideas – as shown by the fact they swung in 41 crosses against Brighton, 11 more than any other team this weekend. Considering their primary striker, Yoshinori Muto, is four inches shorter than both Brighton centre-backs, it was never likely to be a successful plan.

"Tomorrow we attack the germans"

"Let me guess Sir, we climb out of our trenches and do a frontal assault"

"Damm it Blackadder, that's supposed to be a secret"

"We've tried it 17 times before and always failed"

"Ah, but they will never expect it an 18th time!"
