Yeah. I mean it’s probably not a modern day classic, but good fun songsHigh praise

I like kiwi Jr, but I'd expect Mr malkmus to be suing him soonLiking - Kiwi Jr, The Big Moon, Ben Lee(as previously mentioned), Kalie Shorr (as previously mentioned)
Not liking - Courteeners, Bombay Bicycle Club, Mura Masa,
Unsure - Georgia, Craven Faults
To try - Holy Fuck
Sums up a lot of my thoughts. Hadn’t realised that the bloke from Pinegrove was a bit “Hookworms’”THis week's stuff for me:
Kiwi Jr - as discussed in the thread already, very good, heavily Pavement indebted indie rock. Well worth a listen!
Pale Saints - it's 30 years old but their debut is still an indie classic
The Innocence Mission - they're so gentle, they make Belle & Sebastian seem like Slipknot but, as with all of their stuff, this is really lovely.
Bombay Bicycle Club - not particularly great. Bog standard British indie fare really.
Bill Fay - old fogey of the week. Setugenarian singer songwriter. A bit folkie, a bit Robert Wyatt.
Aoife Nessa Francis - young Irish singer songwriter. A bit Aldous Harding, a bit Weyes Blood. Very good!
Algiers - similar to the previous two albums. Angry politicised soul/rock. I think they'll make a masterpiece at some point.
Ooioo - Japanese weirdness from Yoshimi (who once battled the oink robots) and her friends. Part avante garde noise, part post rock, part shoegaze, part electronica.
Pinegrove - it's okay, gets better toward the end (the title track is lovely) but I'm not sure it's as special as the gushing reviews suggest. Might be a grower?
Keeley Forsyth - really, really very good indeed! Reminds me in some ways of Antony & the Johnsons. She's got a phenomenal voice. Not sure how I'd genrefy it.
AJJ - good. Not as punky as earlier albums. For some reason, it reminds me of The Polyphonic Spree.
Holy Fuck - exceptionally good. Their best since their debut. The addition of guest vocalists helps make it coherent. Very muscular!
Whyte Horses - I'm enjoying this. Bit of a curio as it's a covers album (got some good guest vocalists on it, La Roux, Gruff Rhys, Badly Drawn Boy).
The Chap - situationist experimental pop. This doesn't quite meet the high points of "We Are The Best" (9 years old this year) but still pretty good.

It actually reminds me a bit of the last Violent Femmes Record in places, especially the opening track.AJJ - good. Not as punky as earlier albums. For some reason, it reminds me of The Polyphonic Spree.

Totally, but I get the same vibe off it.It's better than that...
I didn't know that either TBH.
been disappointed with this too, not as good as their previous imho. Havent read any reviews, pitchfork seem to have ignored itTHis week's stuff for me:

Pinegrove Stages a Complicated Comeback
In the wake of a scandal, the indie band must prove that it has atoned.www.newyorker.com
yeah had read about that a while back, not sure its on the same level as hookworms. The way they disbanded when the allegations came out suggested they knew it was pretty bad.Sums up a lot of my thoughts. Hadn’t realised that the bloke from Pinegrove was a bit “Hookworms’”
That’s a generous view in my mindThat's a well written and interesting article. The key thing seems to be that he's reacting as someone thrust into a bad situation rather than someone who's done something bad.
Fair pointyeah had read about that a while back, not sure its on the same level as hookworms. The way they disbanded when the allegations came out suggested they knew it was pretty bad.
Same here, a bit “samey” for the most part.been disappointed with this too, not as good as their previous imho.
