New Music Releases Thread

None are on Spotify yet. :-(

Good news, British Sea Power's album is streaming on the Guardian's site today from noon.

What you making of the new YL album now that it's been out a little while?

See The National have a new one out in May, looking forward to that.

Still really enjoying Urban Cone too.

It's okay, there's some good songs like Raspberry Cane, Mute, Dropla but I actually hate Attik Doctor, it's ruining the album for me! I have to skip it every time. It might be a grower but at the minute I don't think it's great, a 6 maybe 7/10 kinda thing. I'll be listening to it more this week.

You?

I dont think i've really given the new one enough of a listen yet, but it's not a patch on Year of Hibernation which i was completely blown away by.

I think i read somewhere that he's worked with a few different people on it and it's lost something that i loved about the first record - It seems a little too polished if you know what i mean?

There's too much going on, the joy of the last one was the simplicity, I get that he's trying to develop his sound but this feels like overkill at times, I still reckon he'll find his sound in the next few years and produce a top class album.

Aye, that's exactly what it is.

I believe he already has produced a top class album ;-)

You heard Urban Cone? At times they remind me a bit of YL.

I haven't, no, they have a really bad name though. Where do I start?

They have a terrible band name, but they're scandinavian so we'll let them off.

They only have one album, so start there!

This is the song that reminds me of YL:

I must be way past it now as all my favourite albums this year have been from people who've been round the block a fair bit...Richard Thompson,David Bowie,Robyn Hitchcock and to add to the list I just listened to the new Edwyn Collins album this morning on the stream below...

Played Edwyn's last one to death, very uplifting, as he was live.

Really enjoying the new Billy Bragg, very laid back and mellow, best he's done for yonks. Thankfully he's ditched some of the awful songs he was performing a couple of years back like "No Power Without Accountability!" - really snappy singalong chorus, that!

Also, big vote for Laura Mvula from me. Very original and refreshing.

Listened to The Strokes today out of interest, if people thought Angles was disjointed and thrown together then they've got a shock coming with Comedown Machine, it's a mess, just songs chucked together.

All The Time (or whatever the single is called is particularly awful), that aside there's actually a few enjoyable songs, the weirder and more strained Julians vocals the better, the 'classic' Strokes songs sound terrible. I'll give it another few goes but I can't ever imagine myself in future thinking that I could do with listening to this album.

I need to give that a listen. I was impressed by the track on the free CD with Uncut.

Listened to Titus Andronicus' new(ish) album earlier. Good but not sure it's as good as their first two on first listen.

Now listening to "The Chronicles of Marnia" by Marnie Stern. Very good indeed and a genius title also...

Palma Violets seem alright like. Better than that Peace everyone's harping on about.

I don't. I posted about them on here last year - one of their tunes. It met with general approval. This was the song...

It's from an old album.

That's canny. i may have seen your previous link.

It does sound like a crap made up name mind.
