New Music Releases Thread

This is quite good actually. They're a real patchwork of influence though, they sort of sound like about 6 bands, from Kate Bush to HMLTD.
Got to put my hand up and admit the bairn has got me into them, so much I’ve got tickets to take her to the city hall to see them. The bit that appeals to me, it feels like I’m flicking through my parents vinyl collection from the 70s/80s…

What’s the crack with the last dinner party then? Obviously the hype machine is in overdrive, it seems bizarre they could get a Stones support slot before releasing an album. That good or good connections?

The albums decent enough.

I think the album’s a cracker. There’s a lot of talk about their connections being an industry ‘plant’ etc, but who really cares when the music sounds good.

There are new albums this week from Brittany Howard, Chelsea Wolfe, Declan McKenna, Dhani Harrison, Ducks Ltd, Helado Negro, Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign, Madi Diaz, The Strumbellas, Zara Larsson, Pylon Reenactment Society, Saramaccan Sound, Tyler Ramsey, Pineapple Thief, Kali Malone, Loving, Itasca and The Chisel.
I think My Life Story had a new album out

Not exactly a lp release but listened to Scarface's Tiny Desk concert last week (think it was released Jan) tremendous imo.

Definitely one of the best I've seen.

Dread to think how many Tiny Desk performances I've actually sat and watched over the last decade or however long it's been going, must be a good couple of hundred.

Dunno but I’ve read the singers da is absolutely loaded like

My usual weekly review:

Imperial Wax: one of a few bands around with ex-Fall members. This is pretty good, quite rocky punk.
Little Simz: she uses these Drop EPs to experiment. There's some good stuff here, mostly short tracks.
Declan McKenna: I like him. This is imaginative psychedelic pop.
Pylon Reenactment Society: the name kind of does what it says on the tin. This is former members of Athens, Georgia post-punks Pylon doing post-punk stuff. At least one B52 guests. Fun!
Chelsea Wolfe: gothy, quasi-metallic rock. Pretty good.
Saramaccan Sound: I like this a lot.Field recordings from Suriname essentially. Pretty simple acoustic tunes. Very good.
Tyler Ramsey: again pretty good. He used to be in Band of Horses so you kind of get the type of sound to expect. His voice reminds me of someone but I can't think who.
Helado Negro: chilled out and quite summery. I've been more impressed by his previous albums so hope this is a grower.
Kali Malone: organs, choral work, drones. Not necessarily the most welcoming of sounds but this is rather engaging.
Loving: gentle Canadian psych rock. Very 70s in sound, pretty good.
Itasca: aka Kayla Cohen. This is high quality, well crated almost folk.
The Chisel: shouty Brit-punk Very good. They remind me a little of Chubby & the Gang.
Brittany Howard: a lot more R&B flavoured than Alabama Shakes or Jaime. Hasn't quite grabbed me yet but may well do.

Album of the week: a tough one but probably Saramaccan Sound.

Haven't been able to get into the Brittany Howard one. Wasn't enamoured with her last one either tbf.

The Last Dinner Party, however, has been brilliant. Really like that one.

I feel the same about BH. I loved Alabama Shakes, too.
Her solo albums are clearly good, but leave me a bit cold. I’ve no idea why.
