Weekly review time now Only Connect has finished... might be a little top heavy.
Ty Segal: very good, stately psych rock, quite varied.
Gruff Rhys: lovely loveliness abounds. Might turn out to be his best solo album. Exceptional.
Future Islands: I reckon this is their best since Singles. A lot better than I thought it would be.
NewDad: there's something good going on in Ireland at the moment. Shoegazey indie rock, very likeable.
Office Dog: Kiwi indie rockers, a little bit psychedelic, a lot good. Well worth a listen.
The Smile: a cracking album, arguably better than the first. Seems a little more organic, if that makes sense.
Katy Kirby: her second album at least equals the second. Maybe a little more varied in style.
William Elliott Whitmore: his umpteenth (anout 9th) album of lo-fi-ish country blues. Another cracker,
Tapir!: absolutely cracking stuff. I was only aware of one track previously. Folky, psych MOR harmony weirdness.
Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes: I remember when he was relevant. This is drab alt rock. Not very good.
Courting: quite Cribsy. Pretty good.
Early Life Forms: Belgian psych, prog jazz recorded live. Decent.
The Umbrellas: very enjoyable janglesome indie pop. I like.
Torres: quite synthy. I'm enjoying this a lot more than their last couple of albums.
Elena Setien: Spanish singer-songwriter based in Denmark. This is a lovely quirky album, get it listened to.
Nehan: Japanese ambient psych weirdness featuring a member of Ghost (the Japanese psych rockers). Two long tracks, the first is quite bagpipe heavy.
Chemtrails: I can't yet decide whether they're tremendous or not. Post-punky pop basically.
Cabane: French bloke makes orchestrated down beat folkish album with British vocalists (Kate Stables,Sam Genders). The world swoons!
Cary Morin: Americana singer-songwriter stuff from a native American singer. High quality if maybe a little one paced.
Album of the week: clearly not Frank Carter. There's a lot that's very good there but I think Gruff just shades it for me.
