New Music Releases Thread

Yeah, I'd heard that. They're first on stage on the Thursday (on what's the second stage for most of the festival but effectively the main stage for the opening evening).

Nice - well they’re worth trying to get in for I’d say. Keen to see what you make of it!

Should really think about going to GM myself - got 11 of our artists playing

A very quiet week. My potted review of new stuff I've listened to:

Liars: arthousey rock, although in saying that, possibly their most accessible album. Good.
Willy Mason: perfectly cromulent singer-songwriter stuff. He's never really lived up to "Where the Humans Eat".
Ishmael Ensemble: exceptionally good. There are elements of jazz, electronica, indie rock and more here. I'm impressed
Mr Jukes & Barney Artist: likeable, fun Daisy Ageish hip-hop. Mr Jukes is Jack Stadman from Bombay Bicycle Club so something of a departure for him.
Lingua Ignota: serious stuff. This is Lingua Ignota's Kristin Hayter tackling religion by means of abrasive instrumentation and operatic vocals. Reminds me a bit of Swans.

Album of the week: Ishmael Ensemble's album is exceptionally good.

Just seen that Ty Segall surprise released a new album last week so will get to that soon.

Lingua Ignota is excellent indeed

Enjoying a throwback 80s jangly indie album by The Umbrellas. A bit Pastels, B&S, C86 in places. Not a million miles from Pinks and Purples, which is one of my faves of the year so far. Looks like it came out on Friday according to Spotify.

Is that it? I've been wracking my brains - I thought at first the girl vocal stuff was maybe a bit Veronica Falls, but I've not listened to them in an age, so I wasn't sure. Not as much uke as AD but maybe the melodies are there (I'm listening to one called Happy at the moment and I can see that).
“Happy” is basically AD, that’s the one that got me!

Veronica Falls is a good shout too

There are albums this week from Charles Spearin, Devendra Banhart & Noah Georgeson, Jungle, Suzie Ungerleider (formerly Oh Susanna), The Killers, Willie Nile, Jade Bird, The Helicopter of the Holy Ghost, Josienne Clarke, Lucinda Chua, Chorusing, Susanna & David Wallumrod and Tashaki Miyaki.

Our lass has booked me a weekend away down Manchester for We Are Scientists in November. Love them fellas me like. Album isn't out til October mind so ignore this shit.

Laura Stevenson has just announced a load of U.K. tour dates for next April. Edinburgh gig is a Saturday so trying to persuade my wife to come with me.
Try hard! Very excited to see her this fall. She was one of our last shows before lockdown. I liked Big Chill, but it was a slow burner and the new one sounds instantly better to me. We have our first shows next weekend (Laura Jane Grace in a local bar and then Sleater-Kinney/Wilco in the city the following night) - for people who go to 20-25 shows a year, it's been a long stretch of cold turkey!
The new album is very decent
Agreed, sir

Sent her links to the new album and “Sit Resist”. Our music tastes are miles apart but we meet in the middle somewhere, hoping this will grab her because chances of any of my mates wanting to go (even on a Saturday) is slim.
