New Music Releases Thread

There are albums this week from Bachelor, Backxwash, Bent Arcana, Black Midi, Blackberry Smoke, DMX, k.d. Lang, Kele, Loscil, Lou Barlow, Moby, Penelope Trappes, The Datsuns, Cheval Sombre, Masayoshi Fujita and Caterina Barbieri.

Metacritic reckons Lana Del Rey is releasing an album (Rock Candy Sweet) on Tuesday. A quick google confirms this was true as of the back end of March.
Black Midi, Bent Arcana and Cheval Sombre for me Clive

I guess it’s hard to know

I do wonder about some of this stuff. Careers ruined based on allegations that never seem to go anywhere. Clearly I’m not justifying any of it, but mud can stick quite easily? Or am I naive?

Its a frightening world online. We will never know the truth and sometimes one person's truth is just a different perception to another persons. However, that lad was enjoying a great career and that appears to have gone now. due to what are, ultimately, unsubstantiated claims.

Once you're in the social media gallows, you're guilty until proven innocent. Unfortunately.

I had a ticket to see them and Factory Floor that got cancelled a few weeks before after all that came to light. Hope they can get back together.

Yup. Remember a few on here seemed to distance themselves from them and saying guilty etc.

hopefully he’s back asap putting records out, wether on his own or in Hookworms.
The last record was sublime so fingers crossed he’s back very soon.

Our lass knew MJ from her Leeds days and said it was highly improbable he was capable of out like this at the time. The fact it all came out in the week of that (fantastic, critically acclaimed) album release for maximum damage seems even more callous. I’d be surprised if there’s anywhere near as much social media redemption for him as there was gleefully ripping him apart. Doesn’t work both ways it seems.

That was the lass from Joanna Gruesome wasn’t it? Sorry situation for sure.

Bit of a weird one though. He did admit in his statement that he'd agreed with the person that he'd abused her, but then said he regretted saying it. The band splitting immediately as the news came out was unusually organised, too.

Hookworms were on such a rise at that point as well and that record was brilliant. Shame what happened. Negative Space remains to be a banger.

The pressure to repent was absolutely absurd at the time mind. It was one of the most relentless Twitter dogpiles I’ve seen of this type. The person wasn’t even named so the bloke had zero chance to even verify the accusations himself. It was clear from anyone following his account he was quite an emotionally fragile person - he’d quit Twitter one day in a whirlwind of worrying / abrupt messages and be back the next - so the band’s split happening quickly holds true to that pattern.

What’s sad is you search for Hookworms today, 24 hrs after the allegations have been dropped, and there isn’t a word said about them by a single personal account - despite NME, Guardian running the news. All of those who were desperate to rip him down showing zero interest in redemption after he’s proven innocent. It’s awful.
