New Music Releases Thread

Not many new releases this week. Albums from 7horse, Brett Young, Gucci Mane, Ice Cube, Van Morrison, XXL, XXXTentacion (a posthumous release), Willard Grant Conspiracy, Daniel Knox, Amor, Rosali, Anderson.Paak (if Amazon are right) and Richard Swift (also posthumous).
Anderson.Paak released an album last month, unless this is something different.

I’ll privably check out Ice Cube but that’s all, unless Apple Music throws me something I wasn’t aware of.

Albums of the year:

Francis Trouble - Albert Hammond Jr
Joy as an Act of Resistance - IDLES
Microshift - Hookworms
Wide Awake! - Parquet Courts
Heaven Before All Hell Breaks Loose - Plan B
Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino - Arctic Monkeys
Love is a Basic Need - Embrace

I realise I'll get slated for the last one but I don't care. :p

I read down

AHJ - not memorable, will give another listen
Idles - yeah, it’s good
Hookworms - bit hyped and now tainted but yeah
Parquet Courts - absolutely
Plan B - not for me
Arctic Monkeys - meh in general about them.

And then......well.....really? Should we listen?

why is the hookworms album tainted by allegations against the band member? Certainly wouldnt stop me listening to it

Saw this guy last week, great gig though unfortunately there were only about 30 people there. His album is a cracker, you'll hear a lot more about him soon. Song Interloper is one of my songs of the year.

If you weren't a fan in the 90s then probably not! I was a fan then and Embrace is one of mine and Mrs bands (I know, I know) so it gets them extra points for me. If none of that applies to you then by all means have a listen but don't back on here to hunt me down if you don't like it. :)

I'm finished with them mind. Sits too uncomfortably with me now.

Whilst fully against what he’s allegedly done. I’ll still listen to and enjoy the last album. It’s a brilliant record.
If I denounced every band / artist who had been guilty of something, I’d have no record collection left.
Again I done condone at all any of his alleged behaviour.

Really?? It was one member of the band and nothing has been proven or charges pressed?
For me the music is the music has nothing to do with all the other shit even if proved to have basis. It'll always be a cracking album

Yeah, basically what I’m trying to say above.

Morrissey has made a career out of that - although more his mouth than anything criminal.

The only problem I've got is the way the band fell apart entirely, as if something criminal had taken place but without any legal intervention.

That was very strange alright. They could’ve gone on hiatus until it was all settled one way or another. Its like they know there’s a basis to the allegations even tho they said in their statement they knew as much about it as anyone else.

People still listen to Bowie, Elvis and a million other musicians who have done something similar or worse. There'd be a lot of music disappearing if we're relying on musicians to be great human beings.

You can argue that was a different time. Personally I'd rather not listen to the music of someone of MJs ilk. Especially when the songs are so personal to him, it just feels a bit weird. I wouldn't pass comment on what others do, it's just my personal choice.

Anyway, record of the year Parquet Courts. Enjoyed:

Father John Misty - back on form after that rubbish last effort
Arctic Monkeys - best record they've done (though I overplayed it and now can't listen to it again)
Bodega - just a refreshing record
Frog - 20 mins of fun. Not as good as anything they've done before though
Soccer Mommy - great record and good live band
Villagers - Villages by numbers but that's no bad thing
Bonny Doon - very good record, chilled out vibe
Virginia Wing - weirdo pop
