They’re running it as club that finances itself. I’m repeating myself.

They’re not fabulously wealthy that they can afford to fritter a few million away to make you happy. They’re balancing the books of the club.

certainly are, with none of their own money. If you are handed a massive club debt free on the cheap you are responsible enough to help out yourself.

We have 1 striker mate and none of the funds from that are going into replacing him.

I dont see why they couldn't have settled a few of these smaller debts themselves, sould have been the provision of getting the club so cheap, all it means is we've sold like 15-16mill worth of players and its just allowed them not really to put a penny into it. Its clever like, but its a bit disappointing.

So we just happened to sell him to a club who’s never heard of him for exactly the same amount of money we happen to owe them, despite prem interest and strong links to Germany
I know what you’re implying but Maja, his agent and Bordeaux would all have to buy into that. I personally think it’s a little bit of a far fetched theory and wouldn’t really benefit us (or Bordeaux) much anyway.

The idea it was totally ‘debt free’ is a myth. We had the legacy payments, various legal battles and extremely high running costs. We would have to pay Bordeaux at some point so why not use this to clear us of the debt now?

Because they bought a club with debts, footballing debts, and high wages. The club cannot continue to run at a loss

Spending for the sake of it? Mate we've got 1 striker.
But the window isn’t closed and I agree I’m a little worried as we are nowhere near good enough, IMO. Besides the original comment is about paying off a debt. That has absolutely no effect on the transfer pot since it would have been factored in by the money men. Basically that debt or whatever payment was due this year can now be used to fund spend.

Not massive though, we've also sold players for 15 million, its impressive that they've managed to settle all this without any of their own funds

Means we are left with a bare squad though. You don't think my point is even remotely valid?

it's gone from 3.5 million to basically a free transfer and paying off a debt.

fantastic stuff. not the current regimes fault but just another reminder of our situation.

the never ending debt nightmare (that we all thought was over)

fuck sake, these owners man, why couldn't they have settled that Khazri deal themselves if it was a few mill left?

Just seem to be selling assets off.

how many excuses!!!

So should the frenchies just have paid us the 1.5 for us to give them it back in 6 months or something. Sounds like a plan.

Possibly, if so then its a stange statement to put out isn't it? As they have said it will have, in the statement.

What has billionaires as a play thing got to do with it?\

I am talking about any sort of funding, literally any investment into the club. If you get a club as big as sunderland on the cheap with no debt and players to sell, you'd expect some of the money to go back into the playing side. Its not an unreasonable ask.
Let’s be honest here. You have absolutely no idea about how to run a 3rd division football club. Let alone a football club who was on its way to administration a few months back. In the words of Charlie Methven (in the trailer for the 2nd series of Sunderland Til I Die) ‘the club was fucked’. You can bleat on and on about money until the cows come home but you aren’t the financial expert you try to come across as. You don’t have the first understanding of football club finances and neither do 99.99% of the people on here, that’s why we don’t go on about them 24/7.

Well it is slightly, they got invest some money initially to pay off smaller debts, which happens at shed loads of businesses when they get took over.

No law saying we had to sell Maja to pay off a million quid debt.
