Laminate Flooring?

Best place I found was Leader Floors - The #1 UK Flooring Retailer price match anywhere on the net for flooring. Underlay was cheaper at Screwfix as was the beading, If you have to have beading go for white the same as your skirting and then paint so it appears to be part of the skirting.
Or get 9mm MDF rips slightly smaller than skirting and paslode em on instead of quadrant. Once their painted they look like part of the skirting. Mitre the ends if thicker than architrave. Average citizen won’t even notice. Someone in the trade will be ripping the laminate up anyway. Easy for me to say as it’s all “off cuts“ from work anyway.

We have it from the front door through the hall and into the kitchen. Designed the layout and pattern, to match the rooms so it flows right through. Included a feature compass in the porch. It makes it unique to your house.

We used the Sunderland Carpet Centre in Fulwell, a good local family business, great quality and service.
I've just had an absolutely bonkers quote from them. I'd rather use Frank's

Tbf they are the best I've seen at amtico/karndean, but by fuck you pay for it. They insist on self levelling the floor, won't let anyone else do it first, and charge silly money. Beware of vinyl flooring stuck down in bespoke patterns. Each little infill strip is cut to length on the job, there will be loads of small gaps at close inspection. They fill the gaps with wax. 😊

It's called Lvt click mate. Luxury vinyl tiles.
Huge choice. Pisseasy to lay, 100% waterproof. Only 4mm thick. Great for bathrooms or kitchens. The best on the market is Livyn.

Lvt click is the answer mate.
3mm ply over the floor boards and the lvt underlay - is that all I need to do to prep for this click stuff?

I feel like it'll be softer and warmer under foot than laminate.

Some of it has built-in underlay. The stuff I put down does. I asked if there was any benefit to putting down extra and they didn't think so. Yes, 3 mil ply was what we used.

Anyone got any experience with this stuff nowadays?

I always hated it when it first became popular, but people insist that the modern stuff is great and a good replacement for solid wood flooring.
I've got a huge amount to buy, so paying 1/3 the price of solid oak really appeals to me.

Any suggestions of thicknesses that won't feel flimsy or move underfoot - I fitted some to a guest room around 2006 and it looked ok, but still felt like it wasn't "solid".

And tips for underlay? Still just that ~2mm foam stuff?
12mm walnut stuff from b and q is canny. Heavy duty and a doddle to lay.

This was for carpet. Perhaps I'm out of touch but the quote completely blew me away. Will check with some others.

I found them very reasonable compared to the likes of John Lewis, you get what you pay for in terms of quality. They actually down sold to us, asked what we used different rooms for and advised us to go for a cheaper carpet than the one we were looking at.

They are just as cheap as Franks when you compare the same quality and not the average prices.

We're planning our hallway at the minute and so many companies round here seem to be specialising in Amtico fitting and other vinyl stuff. Checked it out and think it would look alright in some houses but we're in a victorian terrace and just reckon it'd look shite and too modern. We're thinking engineered wood instead but struggling to find someone to fit.

Well we got two quotes from them. Both carpets he said were roughly the same price. But one was going to have some edging put on the stair runner. That looks as though they are charging about £450 to put some edging on. I can't quite believe it. Perhaps I'm out of touch so I will have to shop around to find out. But I can't accept that quote without finding out. £2150 for a stair runner and a fairly small landing with a couple of steps up in to bathroom and bedroom.

Or Karndean ? I'm thinking of this for hallway/kitchen diner in our new place, hopefully this year.

We've been in ours 12/13 years and the house is just over a year older than that. Karndean floor in hall, kitchen, garden room and utility. Taken a beating off bringing up two mad kids, and it still looks pretty sound. Incredibly hard-wearing, looks good, never been a problem.

Carpet wise it was about £4,000 for six large rooms, including fitting and underlay.

Doesn't the floor need levelling 1st which can be costly?

No mate, unless it's badly uneven. Some lvt click has underlay stuck on the back of the board. Livyn flooring by quickstep is the leader in lvt click, they do an upgraded version for badly uneven floors. Totally waterproof, I wouldn't thank you for the laminate.

If the floorboards are flat mate, which they should be, go straight over with the lvt click and decent underlay.if not, ply with 6mm, which is the thinnest I'd recommend.

30 hours waterproof it said on the packaging, iv had few “accidents” in the kitchen and its been ok. I agree though the cheaper stuff is shite when water gets near it. Thats why i went for this expensive “waterproof” laminate.
I would say the term should be more “moisture resistant” rather than waterproof iirc

Floorboards look OK except where they were butchered to retrofit a wet radiator central heating system. (house was originally electric ceiling heating!)

Now that doesn't seem too bad.
I've just managed to source something very similar to what they have quoted for at around £700. Max £200 for fitting. I really would like to shop local but when you get these sort of quotes but can shop online and pay less than half it's not worth it.

You tried Hylton Road Carpet Centre? Meant to be very reasonable.
