It was brutal but funny

Its a matter of opinion mate and the offence bit probably depends on whether you were on the bus or on the street outside. I personally don't think the story is funny and I actually think its both depressingly sad and potentially divisive and I have therefore said so.

You will no doubt now think I am some sort lily livered liberal and that's fine as well. Who am I to judge you for your sense of humour? People used to pay to watch Jim Davidson after all (some probably still do). Thankfully we still live in a free country and you are therefore free to laugh at any minority you see fit.

I am also free to disagree though.;)
Fair enough. Though I still don't see how any minority are being laughed at. Absolutely nothing derogatory said in the post.

I did a site visit for work the other week in Oldham. f***ing hell.

The worst parts of Sunderland were like Beverly Hills compared to there.

Careful mate, you might be accused of setting an agenda here.
There is a well known fanny getting upset about fuck all on this thread.

Case in point above. Had pre match and post match beers in London and totally convinced that Luton has nothing to offer!!

Ever wondered why we never get away fans drinking in Sunderland in numbers pre and post match and they all go to Newcastle and spend their money there instead? They don't think out of the box (or for themselves) either.

The pubs for Luton (or any away match) thread is one I take great interest in , because that’s exactly where we don’t want to go , rammed with our fans , hard to get served and drinking out of plastic glasses isn’t my idea of fun.

Quite frankly I couldn’t give a shit where away fans drink before a match at Sunderland,it’s their choice where they drink and it’s of no interest to me.

Anytime we play at SJP we always drink in Newcastle pre match and have done since 2000 , same at Boro , the alternative being drinking in town then jumping on overcrowded public transport ? , that’s not my idea of fun either.

Thinking outside the box ? , try it sometime it’s not as bad as you make it out to be.

Some of these dives we end up going to following Sunderland is sad really. But then the away fans of said dump will turn up at the SoL and call it a shithole and claim they want to go home

The OP mentioned that it was an area of town that was selling sari’s etc. Not once did he describe the upkeep of the place.
Do you presume it was a ‘dive’ simply because it’s Asian ?

I thought I'd heard someone saying coaches for station but just thought I hadn't heard correctly and kept walking.

I know that some of these places have large Asian communities but my eyes were truly opened yesterday, some of the looks me and the bairn were getting made us feel from another planet.

You can’t say that mate, @chunkylover53 and his mates will be on here soon to tell you everything is all hunky dory and you’re a bigot/idiot/Neanderthal.

It's pitiful isn't it, coming onto the thread to call someone a racist for simply posting a comment from a stranger on match day

It's obvious to the many, who liked the thread, that the joke is actually on the lad who made the comment.

There seems to be no reality check on the 'holier than thou in every way' brigade who see everything as offensive if it's outside of their tiny narrow minded world.

While I'm on I'd have a guess that, if the OP wasn't me, the thread would've gold Gold by now.

It wasn't my comment but it seemed to sum up the day for many who were there.

Came out of the away end and the police were herding people onto 'coaches for the station' so I jumped on.

25 minutes later we were still there, it's a 15 minute walk

We eventually moved off into normal traffic with no escort and crept along for another twenty minutes on a hot bus.

The lad across from me fell asleep, obviously drunk, and woke up sharp when we had to brake in the high street.

There were endless sari shops, cheap gold jewellery and stalls selling yams, etc .... alost everyone was Asian origin.

Our hero opened his eyes, squinted at the scene outside the bus and said,

"Fuck-ing hell, how lang have I been a kip!"

Never happened... That’s an old Bernard manning gag

Perhaps it was but it was perfectly times and the lad was funny ... why not try it sometime?

And there were other people who'd confirm it happened if they could be arsed with a little worm such as yourself.

More insults. You don't come across as a happy bunny, maybe you should move to Luton to cheer the place up with your positive outlook on life.

Just seen this thread. I now live in Luton after moving here from Hertfordshire. Its a shithole but as per lots of towns its only certain areas. Some parts are quite nice. Same as Sunderland has its shit areas.
I actually found the joke quite amusing. The area in question is known as an area with lots of Asian shops etc. I walk through that area most weeks and I have never felt out of place. I've felt more out of place in other areas of the country.
Anyway less of the online bullshit arguing. It was a story which reiver found amusing. You either found it amusing or you didn't.
Would be easier if the mods lock the thread and we all move on to talking about SAFC and the season ahead.

Many more people found it amusing than the handful of whingers .....no reason to lock a thread because of a tiny minority.
