It was brutal but funny

Mind you, its a God-awful airport too.

The missus comes from there - to be honest, some of the white working class areas are worse than Bury Park. places like Marsh Farm and Houghton Regis might look better, but they were populated by people that inner London councils wanted to get rid of, and they haven't improved since.
Then she will know wigmore, Barton hills and bushmead to name 3. Like to hear opinion on these areas ? Why concentrate on poor areas ? I'm glad Sunderland is utopia, it must have improved since I was up there.

The bonus of being in an economically deprived area like Sunderland is we have a falling population due to people leaving for work and as such no massive pressure to build loads of housing......The biggest difference between much of the South and the North East is the noticeable amount of space...Every available spare bit of land in London is sold off to developers including peoples gardens where possible. When you have lived in London and come home the thing that surprises you is just how wide normal streets are, how much greenery there is, how low the buildings are and how spread out cities with relatively small populations are...........Some huge salaries in that there London but in terms of standards of living I think the housing costs are so different that it is possible to live a lifestyle up here easily comparable with London.....I would definitely prefer to be poor in the North East than the South East.
Most of the northerners who I knew in London have left - it's great in many respects but as you say it's overcrowded and the transport is a mare.

I was merely pointing out that Bury Park shouldn't be singled out because it's an Asian area. To be honest, it looks far more run down than it is because the housing stock is old. I'm not actually from Sunderland, but it has dire parts as well as nicer ones. I've lived out of the North East for over 40 years now, and there are very few places back there I would move to - I'll probably get into massive bother for saying that . I'm actually from South Shields, and I've got into trouble here for saying what I think is the truth about it - I really don't think much of it at all. I have no problem with Bury Park - as a student in Birmingham I spent a couple of years living in Sparkhill. I don't have particular problems with Luton, other than finding it spectacularly dull. To put it into context, I also find places like Reading spectacularly dull. I think it's something to do with them being, essentially, dormitory towns for London.

A sandie made good.

They'd probably erect a statue of you.

Transport in London a nightmare ?

Are you sure ..

Best transport system ever used, only place I have lived where I never bothered owning a car.

I think it’s one of the best in the world (apart from price)

I lived in the East and worked in the west, 30 mins on tube, cost was a fraction of the cost of owning a car and paying fuel....My 20 mile daily commute now costs me more than my 30 mile commute did back then.

Correct I can get anywhere in this city at any time of day and night without a car with the added bonus of it being free.

I understand that and you make fair points. My defence of Luton is not that is a hellhole in places, it's that most of the towns are no different, Luton, Derby ,Leicester, Doncaster, most of London, Stoke, Coventry, the list is endless. I have been up and down this country as a courier for 25 years, it just makes me laugh at people coming from these places mocking Luton. A comedian from bloody SLOUGH was at it earlier in the thread. Anyhow grumpy you said we were crap, I will remember that if we beat you up there. I thought you looked the better side for sure on Saturday but we are better than that I believe. Enjoy the season, I will be amazed if you are not promoted.

One thing that did surprise me that, while on the coach, we passed a collection container where you can dispose of unwanted items. We have similar containers, where we live, for shoes, clothes, etc ..... the one in Luton was for unwanted weapons!

I've never seen one of these in the NE although, tbf, I don't live there.

Agree with this with exception to the bit about the OP. He's a jolly fine chap.
Not my cup of tea but I don’t suppose I’m his either.
He’s still responsible h for the funniest post ever on here about Elton John though. This place is good for a chuckle at times but this post was genuinely bellyache laughing.

I forgot that .... yes, I'm homophobic as well
