India v England series

Wholesale changes are needed for England to be a top Test side but we haven’t got the depth to make them. It’s going to be an inconsistent era of Test match cricket. There’ll be some home wins and the sporadic win in losing test series abroad and that’s about the extent of it.

Of the side that played today, youd only really say that Root, Stokes and Anderson are anything like top test match performers (Foakes with the gloves of course but is that enough in the modern game?).
Our batting is pretty shite like at the moment. We’ll do ok in England but in foreign conditions we struggle, Root apart.

Aye it’s been mad like, I’ve struggled to watch a lot of the last few tests just for my own sanity. It’s just all PR from start to finish

Kind of glad the tour got cancelled for tourists, feel like I’d have been dragged away by the police screaming about pitches and third umpires

The ECB need to stop docking teams that prepare spinning pitches for a start

Mate its not an issue, weakening your best player is just about the worst possible thing we could do, it makes no sense. How can you watch Joe Root this year and think we need to move him?

its also never ever gonna happen and nor should it

Crawley is our number 3 anyway in norma conditions

One batting position should be fuck all for a quality player like Root. Smith moved up to three before Labuschagne broke on the scene, they didn't try to fill the position with a string of random middle order players.

Anyway, moot point as Crawley should play that role in the long term, the issue is when there's an injury

And play County cricket in the High summer so players get used to batting against spin, not just rmf swing

Stokes, Pope and Sibley got runs in SA. Some genuine concerns about our batting against spin. Lawrence should have batted six right through both tours

Some concerns to take away and very little positives but I wrote off the series after the second test. Never will an England team have faced a series with so much stacked in favour of the hosts.

That said, there was some contributing to their own downfall and the selectors completely sold Root down the river with the rotation policy. I hope he is vocal about this as Morgan has stolen all the best sweets and left Root with the bounty’s in the celebration box.

Feel a bit for them but that’s probably the end of Bairstow and Ali at test level. Bairstow has a case to be replacing Pope at 6 but I feel it’s time to look forward rather than back. Big summer for the openers but I’m comfortable with our bowling options. Bess needs to go back i to county cricket and do some form but certainly not one to write off yet.

Michael Vaughan tweeting about India being the great side of this era. Clearly an era only lasts 6 months in his view. Good win in Australia but it’s not a particularly strong Australian side and I quietly fancy us to win the return series this summer. England 2010-12 would have beaten this lot and they are not a patch on the Australian side of the 2000’s. They pretty much manipulated a win in this series and a disrupted England fell into the trap somewhat.

He's only played 19 in his life.
So he's bowled 17 away and 2 at home.

You implied he was a home track bully.

He averaged 32 in the series.

In West Indies he averages 9, australia 21 England and south Africa 25 and 31 in new Zealand.

He picked up fifers in each country away bar new Zealand.

Siraj can swing it both ways pretty comfortably in the small sample size we've seen from him so far.

2 good bowlers who could cause us bother. Then throw in Ishant running through us a couple of times in England

Got Kumar they could always bring back in from the cold too. Who has done very well in England

Bumrah has hardly played a test outside of India. Siraj has hardly played one inside. They regularly come over with a pace bowler or two with a decent reputation and they have little or no impact.

One thing that has impressed me in this series and they can carry over to here is their fielding mind. Tight and hardly gave up a chance.

I think bumrah made his first test appearance in india in this series

I didn't imply anything. I said he's hardly played a test outside of India and that's a fact (and he's not exactly a youngster either). You're the one who jumped in with your size 7's and tried to look clever.

Shami is a good bowler and Pandya took 5/28 at TB last time out swinging it all over the place. With Bumrah, Ishant, Siraj, Shami and Pandya they will bowl well in English conditions but so will we.

what were indias results away in england, south africa and new zealand? last time they played. lost in england and im unsure of the others.

they are a good side but a long way from being one of the greatest. they won this series without scoring 400. great sides do that home and away consistently

Lost both of their last series there. 2 or 3 nowt in NZ and I think 2-1 in SA. The one they won was on a shocking lottery of a pitch in Jo’burg

Pujara, Gill, Rahane and Kohli haven't had a great series with the bat. Ashwin has been better than them all I think.

spot on. the stats are up on espn cricket from the series, and none of those averaged 30 iirc. thats on home pitches, how will they go on english wickets? kohli was done by seam on them as well. stokes, anderson and archer all took him

Bairstow has been disappointing even by my low expectations.

I know he is better batting down the order, but he is one of the highest scoring batsmen in county cricket, supposedly a good player of spin and a senior player the young players would be looking to for some leadership and moral support, yet in three innings out of four in this series, he hasn't even troubled the scorer.

Dare I say Joe Denly would have done a better job in that role as he, at least, has the mindset to dig in and take some leather off the ball.

Jonny is a first class white ball player but wouldn't play in the test side again for me.
Bairstow lived up to all my expectations, unfortunately.
