IF Phillips got the job..

doesn't strike me as the most commanding person in the world.
If he does blow can see the players just thinking it's a little man having a hissy fit and laughing behind his back. Holloway mentioned it the other day that once upon a time you could just get a player in and tell him to get his agent to sort a move out but now you just can't do it. That's how squads get bunged up with players managers don't want. We have a boat load of useless ***** and the worst of them are the senior players, who could make any managers life v difficult. I think Germans have proved successful at motivating your modern footballer so that's another box ticked for me for Stendel, as said before he feels right.

All for opinions, but to dismiss someone just because they have 'no experience' despite working at a good level as a coach is a bit strange. And as already mentioned, plenty of others have been successful once given the chance.

Would indicate the total ineptness of the current owners.
Phillips is a Sunderland legend but a decent player doesn’t make a good manager.
If an appointment of Phillips was made, someone whom has no managerial experience would scream appeasement for the fans and buy the current owner some time and breathing space.
Unfortunately the current situation is bound to cause fans to speculate. Donald prides himself of engagement with the fans but this isn’t working at the moment due to the silence.
IF SKP is appointed, every Sunderland supporter should seriously question the owners.
Some will be happy with this most who witnessed him play hadvthe golden years of our club (unless you seen the 1930s) and would relish him.
Let’s see what happens. If it’s Philips. Be really concerned.
The truth is you just don't know, none of us do, with rookie appointments. No doubt many fans would have been "really concerned" had Syd Collings appointed a playing great in Brian Clough back in 67...after all he had only shown some coaching promise with the youth team. If only, eh? If you don't buy a ticket, forget about winning the raffle.

We are certainly not in a position to be involved in a lottery. This next appointment is very crucial and pivotal to our future.

It always had been. Experience, as we know, cannot be trusted. Nor can inexperience. Nothing in life comes with a stitched-on guarantee. It comes down to judgment and a roll of the dice. If the judgment is good and lady luck smiles, that's all you can hope for.

If he wasn’t an ex player, would his name be on the radar?
Be honest, this would be a sentimental appointment. No other reason. Man U did it with Solskjaer. There’s not a cat in hell’s chance they’d have given him the job if he hadn’t played for them.

Possibly true, but what is the upside? Phillips knows just what the club is all about. The pressure won't bite him on the bum as it has a few others down the years ..even a seasoned campaigner such as Moyes, who seemed utterly unprepared despite having Man Utd and Everton on his CV.
And he would have goodwill in abundance.

Phillips proved people wrong as a centre forward, and had an uncanny knack of being in the right place at the right time and finishing well more often than not. He's one of those types of people I wouldn't bet against doing a job. 'Seems to have a habit of making the best of what he has.

As stated I’d agree. But not at this point of the club. Too much pressure for a rookie.

We need someone to galvanise the club and the supporters. Ainsworth and the other league one standard managers aren’t going to do that. They all stink of the Simon Grayson appointment. If not Keane, then it’s Phillips for me

Keane had no experience.

Plus we’ve had managers who’ve managed some of the biggest clubs in the world, come here and fail.
Experience isn’t everything

You have to start somewhere.
What a player he was for you. Stunning goal at Swindon and not often you simply have to credit the opposition.

Bastard :)

1st choice Stendel
2nd Ainsworth
3rd Cook
But if Super Kev gets appointed I'd be over the moon.
Hes got plenty of experience in coaching so it's not like it's his first job in football, the fans would back him and he'd probably put a few more on the gate.
