Horses and carts on the roads

There was a gypsy funeral in Houghton a few weeks back, horses and carts parked all over opposite the church

Does that negate the fact that they're dangerous, usually driven by absolute knackers and should be banned? Nah but you go on your crusade mate

The car drivers of today need to read the road ahead, take their time and overtake in a safe manner when horses, horse & carts & cyclists are on the road.

Sadly far too many of the younger drivers on the road, seem to think that said other road users should not be there, and think that because they are slower moving, are not allowed to be there.

Have car drivers of years gone by not had to do that as well like?

I think horses and carts have no place on the roads. They're often a hazard, not only to other drivers but to the passengers of the cart. Slow moving, no safety features, and the horse has a mind of its own. Ban them and get the menace off the roads.

It's 2017 man, cyclists I can get away with and can see your point, horse and cart on main roads can fuck right off though imo like. Always absolute scrotes with no respect for the road in my experience as well.

Yes, and the car drivers of years gone by were always taught to respect other road users, such as horses, horse & carts, cyclists.
I would also say that the horse & cart drivers are also safety conscious along with horse riders and cyclists.

The problem lies with knackers who cannot drive their cars in accordance with the highway code, and give the said road users the respect, and time to pass them in a safe manner.

Horse and carts are allowed on the road, - the same as cars. And I am well aware that it is 2017 - but as the law goes, they have an equal right to be there.

Steady on mate they've got a "right" to be there
Most of the Wolsi residents use this means of transport.
Joe is progressive by rimming other people's penny farthing bikes...

And an equal need to be aware of other users of the roads.

Yes mate I think the eight year old driving a horse and cart on his own down the middle of a 60mph road was really respecting the road

As are the usual H&C drivers usually teenagers driving them down busy roads or pedestrianised areas. Really respecting the roads.

They're usually a hazard. They're dangerous. Just because they have a right now doesn't mean they're safe and doesn't mean they shouldn't be banned.
