Equal pay for female footballers?

You can talk about prize money and professionalism but revenue of the men's game is far higher due to far greater interest from both sponsors and fans.

The only major sport which had similar levels of fan and sponsorship interest is tennis and, their the ladies get similar prize money (even for playing less sets). The Williams Sisters, Stefi Graf, Martina Navratilova, Monica Seles, Gabriela Sabatini, Anna Kournikova, for differing reasons, and various others, have been household names.

The world isn't unnecessarily cruel. If a ladies' sport has sufficient interest, it will get more fans, more airtime, more sponsors and bigger prize money. Until it does, why should their be some sexual political gender agenda?

What about seniors sport, or youth sport or disabled sport or just unpopular sports? Should they also get extra rations despite not having strong fanbases.

The World disabled female seniors invitational curling match should get the same money as the Champions League Final.....

Go home. Nothing to see here

Easiest way to sort all of this is to just change the rules so any gender can play in the current “men’s” games...

Same for all sports tbf.

True equality.

Nah they won't do that as no woman would get to the finals or into the squads.

Then they'd have to admit that the womens standards of the games are way lower, no matter how much they currently try to portray it.

Ok, so once the so called ban was lifted why hasn't the women game progressed until the last few years ? Has any womens team actually got their own stadium? Like someone else on this thread has said the two biggest clubs in the UK are Chelsea and Man city yet get less then 2k watching them who's paying the bill's?

The F.A. only took over the running of the national team around 25 years ago and the current league structure has only been in operation for less than a decade.

I’ve explained all this.

What the likes of Hope Solo are pushing for is known as equality of outcome aka Communism - it never ends well. Equality of opportunity is great and what we should all be striving for, equality of outcome is a dangerous ideology that should be resisted at every turn.

I get that but it doesn't change the fact that Women football is reliant on the mens game.

Investment is proportionate to the interest in the game.

Interest in the game is proportionate to promotion of the game.

Women's football hasn't been promoted effectively until relatively recently.

Because they've been told to do so..

Do you think Man Utd have started investing in a women's team because they've been told to or because they see an emerging global market?

I have no problem with it, but I will also expect to be paid Premier League wages for my Wednesday night games rather than me having to pay £5. Why should the fact that we have no audience, no TV and no sponsorship be an issue? It’s just not fair that those highly skilled elite, producing football that is wanted to be viewed by millions across the planet, packing out stadia and generating world wide exposure to advertising get the wages.

A flawed argument. You can promote the Swiss Super League as much as you want, but it is never going to get a fraction of the attention worldwide as the Premier League.

The reason is the standard is not as good.

Now you can argue the women’s standard will improve, but it will never get close to the men’s. Now it may improve to the point it becomes a decent spectacle, but I seriously doubt this will ever be enough to lift it from the fringes. League 2 can be a decent spectacle, but people hardly tune in around the country to watch.

One huge problem for women’s football is the fact most women have no interest in it, never mind the men!

How many women watch Man Utd or city, and how many women watch their women football teams..

Because they've been told to do so..
No, incorrect. Nobody is forced to run a women's football team. It's not an FA requirement, it's not a Premier League requirement, a UEFA or FIFA requirement. It's because they want to. And a really interesting question to think about is why they do it, when they don't have to.

So what?

Women's sport is a global market in it's own right.

The more it's promoted the more interest there will be from sponsors and participants alike.

The progress made on both fronts over the last few years is proof of that.

Of course they do. The womens game will only improve toast similar skill level as the mens game when similar funds are put into the training and development of the players. The mens game is still light years ahead but they are moving forward in leaps and bounds.

Also, league football is barely followed but the world cup has a massive following.
Did you watch that shite last night ?
