There’s a difference between ‘fans’ and ‘supporters.’ Fans are people who are defined by “liking” a club, they don’t necessarily go to games and/or pay to watch, anyway. Whereas ‘supporters’ take it further and “support” the club financially. I’m a ‘supporter,’ I have a season ticket and have had a season ticket for years. I spend money to go and watch and ‘support’ the team when they play away from home etc. And, I’ve had more than enough of ‘supporting’ this shit, for this season. I also couldn’t care less what your opinion is.

I always thought "fan" was short for fanatic, someone who wants to go to every game etc. Supporter covers a range of things, from supporting in the ground to just occasionally supporting financially by buying a bit of merchandise. Always considered a fan to be more committed than a supporter due to the definitions

You're a shit fan in my opinion.

I understand that some people can't make it or can't afford it but if you're able to go and choosing not to cause you're annoyed at the ticket price or annoyed we didn't finish top two or whatever then you're a shit fan who isn't really supporting the team.

If there are 35,000 supporters there on Saturday, what percentage of them would go to the away leg if we had unlimited tickets?

It’s actually the other way round, as being a supporter involves making a financial obligation, whereas fanatic (in terms of semantic usage anyway) actually doesn’t. You can still be ‘fanatical’ without ever even attending a game. It’s mostly just passion for the ‘cause.’ That isn’t to say you can’t actually be ‘both,’ whatever, but there you go.

But can you be a fanatic if you never go and never make a financial commitment? Apparently a fanatic is "obsessively concerned with something". Would seem unlikely that someone could be obsessively concerned with their club but have no interest in attending or supporting it financially? Whereas it is definitely possible to be a supporter just by buying one scarf (financially giving support), but never attending. I realise this is a shit, boring argument mind, just bored at work

Think it's ok not to want to go, but you can guarantee they'll want a wembley ticket if we some how end up there again.

Ah boo hoo. This is frankly idiotic logic. Amongst others, I ‘supported’ them when they were getting five put past them against Coventry, losing at Fleetwood and Southend and bladdering automatic promotion. Like I said, do one.

You still havent answered what youve had enough of?

I've got lots of reasons for not going (personal stuff) but I'll be there. It's simply too big a game to miss.

If we'd have had a shit start to the season and came good in the 2nd half - winning a few and losing a few along the way - then some might think that the play-offs were well deserved and our prime opportunity to get up.

If we'd had a bang average season and then gone on a run and just sneaked into 6th place on the last day then people would be positively drooling over this Saturday night.

And, if we have a strong victory on Sat night, the buzz will all be around Wembley and promotion prospects again.

I'm gutted that we didn't seal automatic after we played ourselves into such a good position after Wembley.... but it's where we are. To not get behind the team at this point is churlish and self-defeating.

If a Sunderland supporter lives near Wembley I could see why, not every has an SR postcode.

Well we pay for a season ticket to watch all home league games, where the prize is hopefully promotion, so if we finish in the play offs we are still playing a home game in the same competition
No it isn't. There are 46 league games and they have all been played, as have the 23 home games that are paid for in a season ticket. These games are not league games they are extra.
