Anyone recommend me a new tv?

Discussion in 'SMB' started by addicted_to_safc, Mar 19, 2017.

  1. Don't bother mate. Don't buy a tv for the 'smart' features. Stick to a good telly with a decent android box/pc.

Its nice having Amazon Prime built in, cos it does 4k. Plus, it means the telly can decode 4k from a HDD too. That's useful, no?
Or do you think its better to spend the £150 on a really good Box?

Had my Panny plasma since 2009 and thankfully, or should I say fortunately given your comments, it's still spot on.

Often happens when you have a brand like Bush - its like Pacific at Asda, you never really know what the stuff is, as its all made generic, then has a badge hoyed on at the end of the production line.
It can be good, or bad - its hard to tell I'm afraid.

This might be helpful, or maybe not!

  7. I would always go for a dedicated box mate. For netflix/amazon that does limit the boxes you can get (Intel NUC, Amazon Fire, NVIDIA Shield etc..) but a dedicated box will always give you so much more choice.

    Cheers, I've decided against it.
Read a few reviews on the Argos site and a few have said the sound isn't great which has out me off.

Going to hang on and find her something else. She has about 300-400 to play with so hopefully should find something decent with a big screen.

  9. Cheers for all the replies, however after after looking at all the ones recommended I am now even more confused than ever .

I am thinking of going for this one as my daughter has decided she wants 3D aswell and I am not into gaming or anything. My little boy plays on the PS4 but that is as much gaming as it will be being used for. The only thing that puts me off is the magic remote control, has anyone used one before and how easy are they to get used to? They look really confusing.

  11. That's good to know, thanks.
Have you tried the magic remote yet and if you have how easy/difficult is it? I have never used one before and its the only thing putting me off.
Free installation ends tomorrow so probably going to bite the bullet and get it. I am useless with stuff like that and whoever installs it might be able to give me a magic remote lesson :D.

You dont need the install. If you cannot put a plug in the wall and follow the onscreen messages you should have a telly

Really like the remote, basically like having a cordless mouse.

Be prepared for the upsell's, will try you with insrance, uprated hdmi cables, broadband, sky q and mobile phone upgrade.

  13. I'm female man, I can't do stuff like that . Plus the PS4, Sky Box, Blu-Ray player etc all need putting back in. I wouldn't know where to start (honestly, I got my ex hubby to set up my last one!) And if they are willing to do it free if I buy it tomorrow I am happy to go with that.

They can sod off with the upgrades, I don't have the money anyway once I have paid for the tv though I will probably take out the insurance.

    Insurance for what?
Buy at richer sounds and it has free 6 year warranty. Seriously, plugging the existing cables into the telly is simple.

  15. I like the Knowhow insurance as it covers accidental damage, I have used it loads with my laptops and its well paid for itself. I have an 8 year old and a disabled 17 year old who just loves breaking when she is having one of her meltdowns.

I had the 55" version of that philips. Great apart from when watching football there was an annoying motion blur. Argos swapped it but still the same with all settings tried. Had to take it back for a refund. Shame because it was great otherwise.

proper mind field of info to look at but if bairn gets ps4 pro / xbox 1 s that do HDR, ks7000 is best about, was looking at a 4k monitor for ps4 pro but there £600+ and no hdr , so £800 for games , hdr, low lag etc & 4k movies .was a easy choice for me

4k monitors with hdr will be pricey

I want the 55" Ks7000 but the stand is too big for my unit

Cant be arsed to faff with getting a new unit either

  19. If you have a lot of damage usually add accidental damage to your home jnsureance, covers everything! Cheaper mate surely?

Aye the legs at either side were a ball ache. If you are handy you could maybe make something by attaching it to tv mount holes on the back.

I thought they were movable on the 55, but not on the 49?
