Any Other School Staff Going On Strike?

Wasn't copied and pasted at all it's my opinion. I don't hate education as I'm all for it but as I've said if all key workers downed tools there would be pandemonium. Those refusing to work should not be paid a salary...simple.
Those who aren’t going in have been advised not to by their unions who legally look after their interests and safety. They will be “working from home” like whole swathes of the country providing remote learning. If they don’t they will be disciplined and potentially sacked.

I also find it ironic that comments I’ve read on Facebook etc, slagging teachers off, are from those working from home or even worse those on furlough getting paid for doing nothing.

I was in school during the last lockdowns with key worker kids. If you read up on any of the science the government choose to ignore you will see the r rate in teenagers is 3. Higher than any other age category.

I think the big thing we're all failing to grasp is that some people are simply jealous of teachers.

Working from home on full pay staying safe? Of course i am jealous. Sounds lovely that.

Sadly for alot of us we can't choose that option. And i don't mean that in a spiteful way.

Most the comments seem to be from those who have to work. I'm hoping if they do close schools then they'll give more people the right to work from home.

Well I’m all set for my 5 lessons tomorrow online streaming. Good mix of activities with knowledge retrieval, exam based questions, videos and games. GCSE history is great to teach!

On a brighter note, my colleague is out of danger in hospital it appears. Out of the induced coma and off the ventilator. Thanks for those asking previously! A lot of teachers tested positive just before Christmas it turns out.

Remote learning is crap man. My wife is a key worker as am I. We have 2 children aged 13 and 7 with the 13 year who is autistic and goes to a special school.
During the first lockdown she had to take 14 weeks unpaid leave to look after the kids because the inlaws were isolating and unable to help and the special school did not want the kids in school because lots have underlying health issues.
My wife's employer would not furlough her as they didnt recognise the scheme as they in their words were busier than ever so placed her on unpaid leave.
She did not receive a penny for 18 weeks by the time she worked when she returned to getting her 1st salary. This was through no fault of her own and we had to live on 1 salary, no help or anything.
Same happened for an incident where my oldest daughter had to isolate for 14 days due to a staff member testing positive. Again no money for 2 weeks again no fault of her own.
Again today she could not attend work and god knows when she will be able to return.
Added to that both children have suffered and gone backwards with regards to their learning despite our best attempts at providing structured learning.
My oldest daughter is so different when she doesn't have routines and going to School.
Like I have said several times imagine if all key workers downed tools.

The way we understood it when they went back in the summer was that all classes would be kept in their own bubble with no mixing.

However, my son's school which has 90 kids in the same year (3 classes of 30) have been mixing with the whole 90 every break and lunch time. A 'bubble' of 90 doesn't seem particularly pro-active.
If your child's school has a three form entry it's gonna have 21 classes plus nursery. Gonna be impossible to have 21 plus bubbles.

I clarified my comment after this post. Was a swipe at the government with their ridiculous expectations rather than at the school

I feel for you.

maybe those who criticise unions etc see the need for strong union representation in the workplace then? I can’t believe a special school wasn’t open mind given they are vulnerable kids. I worked throughout lockdown once we got the schools back open for key workers and vulnerable kids.

My daughter goes to special school and in the march lockdown her school was open for key workers and certain children, they were brilliant with us in that they couldn't offer my daughter a place at the start as they had to many children in to keep them safe, but eventually after 8 weeks so was in for 2 mornings a week.

During the first lockdown everything was new and things were being tested. I am sure schools like your 13 year olds and my daughters will have learnt and adapted so much in the past 10 months that they will be able to offer at least some face to face learning

Well mate it wasn't. I've strong views on teachers refusing to work, they are all a disgrace.
I have had to work throughout this with 70 plus others but I work for the private sector and have to get on with it as do many others not like these public sector teachers who seem to think it's ok to withdraw labour

Are you joking? You obviously dint know your history.

Jimmy is dead.

I'm with you at the very start of the pandemic but at that time in our area there was no such thing as key worker priority, that came much later. Then because we have 2 in different schools the youngest daughters school was not open at all so we were still stuck.
What are these teachers expecting to happen in say February when schools are expected to open back up as this virus won't have gone anywhere.
Jimmy is dead.

They're not a disgrace and they're not refusing to work.
Are they not...so what is the issue??
