Those who aren’t going in have been advised not to by their unions who legally look after their interests and safety. They will be “working from home” like whole swathes of the country providing remote learning. If they don’t they will be disciplined and potentially sacked.
I also find it ironic that comments I’ve read on Facebook etc, slagging teachers off, are from those working from home or even worse those on furlough getting paid for doing nothing.
I was in school during the last lockdowns with key worker kids. If you read up on any of the science the government choose to ignore you will see the r rate in teenagers is 3. Higher than any other age category.
Remote learning is crap man. My wife is a key worker as am I. We have 2 children aged 13 and 7 with the 13 year who is autistic and goes to a special school.
During the first lockdown she had to take 14 weeks unpaid leave to look after the kids because the inlaws were isolating and unable to help and the special school did not want the kids in school because lots have underlying health issues.
My wife's employer would not furlough her as they didnt recognise the scheme as they in their words were busier than ever so placed her on unpaid leave.
She did not receive a penny for 18 weeks by the time she worked when she returned to getting her 1st salary. This was through no fault of her own and we had to live on 1 salary, no help or anything.
Same happened for an incident where my oldest daughter had to isolate for 14 days due to a staff member testing positive. Again no money for 2 weeks again no fault of her own.
Again today she could not attend work and god knows when she will be able to return.
Added to that both children have suffered and gone backwards with regards to their learning despite our best attempts at providing structured learning.
My oldest daughter is so different when she doesn't have routines and going to School.
Like I have said several times imagine if all key workers downed tools.
