You just have to enjoy things while they last mate.

Look at Marco ..... sang his name all over the country, idolised him and now most people would move seats if they were sat next to him on a train.

If you miss out on the good bits the bad bits are worse.

i’ve obviously missed something whats Marco done ?

Very positive news. Donald seemed to allude to the fact that he could get us to the pl (financially anyway) but would then need investors. Maybe santori will come on board in the next 12-18 months.. ...

The only bit I got was that Donald wanted the ground too.

The Kassam stadium wasn't owned by Oxford or the owner it was / is owned by former chairman Firoz Kassam. In 2006 he valued it at £13M.

Kassam Stadium - Wikipedia

Both Donald and Methven have no emotional attachment to Sunderland. They are 'buying' a debt free club for £40M with a guaranteed off field income of £49M in parachute payments (£35M this season, £14M next).

They are here to make money as well as for the ride. The good news is that the only way they will make money is to have a successful team on and off the pitch.

I think it was going to be a separate deal from what I’ve read elsewhere. Donald was going to buy the ground from Kassam and Sartori the club. He was quoted a ridiculous price for the ground and Sartori’s bid was turned down.

Anyway, hopefully their loss is our gain.

I see SD insists he’ll always have majority, if someone buys in at say 40% what is the benefit? Free loans off said billionaire?
Not having a go by any means but would they not want to swallow a lot of the shares? @Grumpy Old Man

The hope (rather than advantage) is that the club improves to a point where, on a subsequent sale, they can recover their loans and make a stonking profit on the shares. The advantage to the club is that they get loans from him at low or no interest rates, rather than having to borrow commercially.

Thanks, that was my inkling (sp).

Everyone idolised Ellis after the cup final.

I think we'll get back to the championship quite quickly. The difficulty will arise in making the transformation from championship to regular top-flight side; something that we've struggled with since the 1950s.

Not everyone. Many could see the cup run... great though it was... merely papered over the cracks. Some, me included, saw the cup run as a chance for change... sadly Ellis didn’t.
Ellis Shirt invested/wasted £200 million on SAFC, I doubt we'll see the likes again at our club in my lifetime.

I cannot remember anyone calling him at that time tbh.

The Championship is a poor league, which makes our relegation all the more a disgrace.

Well said, the fans demanded Martin O Neill he got him, he made a complete mess of it and everyone blamed Ellis, incredible.

As already asked by jme. What's Marco done to upset you (and supposedly "most people")?
Most people I know idolise the bloke, full stop.
The only reason they would move if next to him on a train would be because he thighs were taking up too much room.

Agree. The worry is even if we get back in a year theres 6 more ex prem clubs with parachute cash etc clamming to get out of there too. (Guess it didnt help us, boro n hull much but there’ll be stronger drop).

In a nutshell it's because Marco talks patronising nonsense as a co-host on a local radio phone in.

I don't listen but the jist is he doesn't attend games but he has more insight from TV clips than those who do. He supported Moyes very strongly throughout his disastrous tenure, basically arguing to anyone who was critical that black was white. He is an agent so he will not criticise the players who have performed woefully during back to back relegations.

He basically has a vested interest and it shows, badly.
