A ballot will only increase the selling of away tickets on Facebook imo.
For example Brighton away on a Tuesday night in February, 600 tickets (20%) available in the ballot. 25k apply in the hope of being successful and therefore gaining a BCP. Someone on say 29 points is successful, history suggests they’re unlikely to attend as it’s not a glamour game so they’ll try and sell their ticket on to keep the BCP and they’ll potentially move in to phase 2 for the mags so they’ve achieved what they want without attending the Brighton game and a non season ticket holder has potentially been able to attend at Brighton as opposed to someone on say 40 points.
A ballot also significantly increases travel and accommodation costs for those who would almost certainly be guaranteed a ticket historically as they’d have to wait until the result of the ballot before booking travel and accommodation etc.
For the mags for example 500 (20%) tickets in a ballot, let’s say 500 people on 0-9 points are successful that means that 500 fans on say 30 points miss out on this game despite having done best part of 10 away games per season. We’re almost certain that 31k of season ticket holders fall into the 0-9 poiyns bracket given the Everton FA cup ticket phases.
A ballot also increases the risk of trouble as those on 0 points for example are less likely to be concerned about losing their season ticket due to causing trouble at an away game as they’re more likely to be a new season ticket holder, this could have greater implications for phase 1 fans as there could be reduced away allocations imposed by SAG in the future.
Ballots being suggested for fans under 18 for example, how would that work for someone aged 10 for example as at virtually every game a condition is that all under 14s must be accompanied by an adult. If the 10 year old is successful in the ballot, does their parents who’ve also got 0 points automatically get allocated a ticket as they’d need to accompany the child to adhere to the terms and conditions of entry?
