Dan Neil

I think those stats you've posted suggest Jobe was better.

I think most people's eyesight suggested he was better anarl, but I know you're in minority there.

They don't though. There are several areas Jobe excels - aerially, long passing, duels won and there are several where Neil does. Most of them are very close though.

Dan Neil had more touches per game, was dispossessed less, won slightly less duels, made more interceptions, made more recoveries and dribbled past more players

But then Dan Neil played 3882 mins making 1612 accurate passes in 2531 touches to Jobe's 1358 and 3507 mins and 2240 touches.

A lot of it is in the interpretation of the actual stats, they were extremely close. I'm not the one saying Jobe was miles ahead- and he wasnt and I never thought he was as a footballer.
Absolutely not. Did you miss the 2nd half which completely changed in our favour after he went off, and the 2 goals that subsequently got us promoted?

We wore Sheffield United down. In the first half Jobe and Le Fee couldn't get on the ball, United swarmed our midfield and denied us time and space. Neil was the one composed in midfield who kept things flowing and spread play making United chase. He didn't control it, but he absolutely played his part.

He was taken off with cramp as Sheffield were tiring maasovely and had subbed the likes of Hamer. That allowed us to move Le Fee and Jobe back, allowing Watson and Roberts the space they wouldn't have had earlier in the game.

He is a good player, and has many qualities, but he is finished here.

I have absolutely no problem with that - we have moved on tenfold. Neil like Jobe probably isn't and likely never will be a PL player- neither have enough.

Agree with this entirely. They'll both have great careers I'm sure, but I dont think either will be premier league players.

I love the way that anyone who dares critises Neil is scum, but it's fine to go off on a rant about the manager never gaving him a chance as if he doesn't know what he's doing. The same manager who has got 30 points so far.

Ironic.
Loads dont rate Dan Neil he is marmite among supporters and on hear its a toxic debate. Toxic simply because some intolerant people cant tolerate diverse opinions on a thread and a forum that seeks opinion!!!

They should start a forum named F/O unless you agree with me!! Some people prefer the echo chamber where no other opinion is heard.

You wonder how people deal with real issues in their life if Dan Neil triggers them this much 🤣
With violence and vile abuse like all who are intoleramt it their go to.
it’s best for all if he moves on he’s not guna get a game and frees up another space, do
people think he’s guna suddenly get a game after being frozen out and take the premiership by storm , time to let it go wish him well and move on
There is no top flight team intersted in him is there??? Like it or not that seems to be the truth.

Is he at a similar ability level as Sean Longstiff who went too Leeds ?
I would say probably not a massive difference between the 2,
both can handle the ball well, good defensively and have no pace.
Longstiff has the premier league experience with the Mags but Dan is a lot younger at 24.

Whichever way it goes I think it is a shame if and when Dan leaves without having had a chance to demonstrate that he can or cannot make it in the Premier league. At the minute it is only a matter of opinion, as it was when some reckoned Trai Hume couldn't make it in the Prem, or Dan Ballard.

Dan Neil is Sunderland through and through, but having not signed a new contract he has left the club in an invidious position, meaning they will need to cash out now or get bugger all in the summer, and that's a shame too.

Clearly the coaching staff have seen enough in training to come to the conclusion that Dan cannot make the step, and I respect that, but he will leave with every good wish from me and I would have thought the vast majority of all Sunderland fans - and perversely I hope he proves the doubters wrong wherever he eventually winds up and does in the end make it as a premier league footballer.

When Tom Watsons shot hit the net at Wembley it was the end of the squad that got us promoted . Most fans are staggered at the level of quality and the quantity of new recruits we brought in for this season . Its almost as if these lads put a block on their own careers. Since then many left to find another club and no doubt more will go this window. Those who are still with us and getting game time Ballard , Cirkin, Mundle, Hume, Rigg, le Fee, Isidor, Mayenda. O Nien all doing well. We still have a large group of players who will struggle at this level . Just seen Dan Neil is poss off to Sheffield United which will be a good move imo . A lot more moves to come

What ever happened to just going to the match, using your eyes and forming an opinion on what you had seen.
This isn’t a dig by the way.
You're spot on. It was obvious to anyone who watched most games that it was Ballard, Hume, Le Feé and Isidor who would be shoe in's to the PL with hope for Mayenda too.
A centre half who rarely misses a header, a left back who is hard as nails and times tackles to perfection, a midfielder who was clearly playing down a league with touches of class and a centre forward capable of scoring the spectacular.
Dan Neil has found his level in the Championship and there's no shame in that. I used my eyes to come to that conclusion and if I'm proven wrong, I'll give up football.

Is it also to lose the ball more times than he shoots or get shots on target?

I'm in absolutely no way struggling with anything here - have a look back a page and I've picked plenty of for you - actual stats and percentages alongside many of them. There's plenty a available between FBref and Footmob etc and they're very close in all but a couple of areas - some favouring each.

Context is an interesting choice of words given you've posted a load of numbers and then added them up. 😀
If you don’t shoot you don’t score possession doesn’t win you games

Humes a right back marra so you clearly need to use your eyes better than what you mention

Looks like West Ham desperate to get him over Rangers. Bidding war incoming?

Nuno "The Holy Spirit" throwing one last Hail Mary to save the club it seems.

Good post mate.
As is football though.
We all wanted Premier league football. Its the only place to be. Some of that squad have thankfully made the step up i.e. Ballard, Cirkin, Hume, Le Fee.

O'Neiln, Rigg, Mundle, Isidor, Mayenda are stil WIP

The rest, unfortunately will fall by the wayside.

Thats life, Thats football. Theres no sentiment in football.
I genuinely wish the rest all the best in their careers going forward.

It seems as if the club want to cash in on him whilst he is still an asset. It's sad but he's not going to get a game, so it makes sense for both the club and Neil. Bit disappointed for the lad as he’s been a huge part of getting the club to where it is and I love the fact that he’s one of us too
