Jack Clarke

Leeds just got 40mn for Rutter.

I can understand him wanting to test himself in the premiership with better wages.

It's the club that has narked me with it's complete capitulation over the price.
Can't argue with that BUT the club will surely know his value, so either there is a huge sell on clause or the figures are not 100% right.

Moving to a footballing backwater to play in front of 20-odd thousand for a team that will be relegated this season? Good to see the lad has ambition ;)

Could well be another Maja situation - head turned for money and flopped after leaving. There's not many historically who have ever gone on to bigger and better than SAFC.

I understand that 'that's football' but am disappointed at the relatively low fee. How many times have we seen an unheard of Carlos Kickaball score on his Premier League debut on MOTD and heard Alan Green excitedly shrieking about him looking a snip at £40 million?

I'm also concerned that the money won't be used for team strengthening. And it does make you wonder who's next under the infamous Model. I wonder what bargain fees Rigg, Bellingham, Patterson, Cirkin, Ballard and Neil might fetch?
Why you concerned about "bargain" fees if you think the money won't be used to strengthen the team anyway?

Surely the fees are irrelevant if that's the case?

The lad wanted a move to the Prem.

We had one offer.

You think we should have forced him to stay. I think we should have granted his wishes rather than held onto an unhappy, depreciating asset. That’s a difference of opinion.

I reckon if there had been more interest in him, we could have got a better deal but as I said, with only one bidder, it’s easy to win an auction.
We could keep him like Leeds did with Gnonto, who went on to score 9 goals for them last year in a similiar position to Clarke. Also, if Leeds sell him now they would get a similiar price. Its more that we do not have any capital to trade with this summer.

I think that’s too extreme

£20m initial was probably achievable if there was a bidding war but £25m basic wasn’t realistic. You could tell by the fact that nobody was bidding anywhere near that level
So if no one is bidding that then don't sell him. You don't just accept a bid which is, quite frankly, an embarrassment, just because it's the only one you get.

Even if he didn't sign a new contract we would still get between 12m and 15m for him next year with 1 year left on his contract.

I do think its a bit of a weak move for him like
Ipswich’s style last season would have suited him wonderfully. If they keep playing like that it’ll be a good environment for him

I think Ipswich will stay up, but even if they go down he’s either:

At a team that will be among the clear favourites to go up

If he’s proven himself well enough, teams pushing for Europe will be in the market for him
Well, I've seen it or I wouldn't have typed it.

You don't think anybody has, that's fine.
Who? I’m not doubting you, I just can’t see it - it’s a busy thread

I’m shocked by the whole thing. Assumed they wouldn’t be this stupid and got it wrong. Still can’t really wrap my head around it.

Been pulling you and others up all day over it because the one scenario I could t imagine happening is the one that has unfolded tonight. Should know better by now like.

Bollocks, you’ll be back to calling people negative and not accepting any valid opinions within a week.

Bit of both.

I think we needed more coin up front. And Ipswich looks a crap prospect for him. He'll have to find a place in the side among all the other signings they've brought in. They'll be relegation fodder. And I'll be amazed if McKenna is there in 6-12 months time.

He'll be stuck there, relegated, on big money looking for a move to start all over again in 12 months, whereas he could have been the focal point of our Premier League campaign next season having already secured God-like status in red & white.
Or Ipswich might stay up, he might have a great time and get an England call up then someone like Villa buys him in 18 month/2 years. It's nowt to do with the fans despite what we wish. The fee seems too low but he wouldn't sign another deal and scarily this window was probably his peak sale value for SAFC. Not a great look for the owners but him and they made the decisions. Lets face it we are a long long shot for automatic promotion and one of about 12 clubs that might get in playoffs and that was with Clarke.
