Jack Clarke

Are people more annoyed the fact we are selling him to Ipswich or the amount? I think most admitted he was going and 20m was the starting point so really with add ons etc we aren’t far off that. So I think and I’ll admit it, we are selling our best player to Ipswich. No offence to Ipswich, decent club, well run, very good manager etc but we are a much, much bigger team that is continuously failing to reach its potential. Or are we a club that has been on the brink of financial meltdown that is ensuring its long term future. Personally I’m furious we are selling him to Ipswich but that’s football.

I do think we will sign 3/4 players and not necessarily one to directly replace Clarke as have a couple who can play there, we will just have 2/3 more options in the middle that we haven’t had before. Big season for KLD this as one has gone and there’s 3/4 others that will happily follow if we don’t compete up the top.
I couldn't care less where he ends up or how his career goes after he leaves here. But the fee is a shocker like

£20m IF he hits targets, certainly not guaranteed.
We don’t know what they’ll be. Perhaps it’ll become apparent. When we sold Stewart it was reported widely £2m of the add on were guaranteed

Maybe some will be here

I agree if it’s £15m up front with no guarantees it’s a poor deal for us.

£20m probably

I said at the end of last season I thought £20m would get him.

I’d have liked to have got £20m+£5m personally. I’d have no disappointment then (beyond losing Clarke).

I said a while ago we wouldn't get 30 million for him and loads of people on here slaughtered me saying he'd easily go to a prem side within a year or two for that amount.

Fair enough.

So you would have forced him to stay against the lads wishes. I get some people will think we should have done that, I just don’t happen to agree.

So are you saying that players want to leave and we should just accept offers that don’t reflect the true value?

He’s playing football for Sunderland as a professional footballer. It’s not exactly a bad life

The price. Should have been a clear £25m in SAFC pocket at least.
I think that’s too extreme

£20m initial was probably achievable if there was a bidding war but £25m basic wasn’t realistic. You could tell by the fact that nobody was bidding anywhere near that level

For me it's just a shame that the club haven't got a succession plan on this one.

If the likes of Mundle or Watson had been tearing it up and pushing the first team then it wouldn't feel like such a blow.

This is what the model should be doing, and I think they've tried with the likes of Mundle but they just haven't made it yet.

I still have faith in Mundle though. He looked quality at Bradford pre season. And Clarke didn't hit the ground running here. He wasn't even a starter in the playoff final, with embleton playing instead.

When do the schools go back?

He's spot on tbf

Oooooh we might make it upto £12M profit. Wow

This is a good point like. A players only worth what someone is willing to pay. And it didn't seem we had teams kicking to door down for him.

And I know they can spend with the idea the money is coming but they don't seem to work like that.

Exactly what they've been doing over the last week or so isn't it? Well not spend but work on the deals in anticipation of it.

As with last season after the initial outlay on Jobe and Seelt etc we went right to the end of the window working on deals like Rusyn who we'd been after for ages, none of those hotted up and were then completed (Burstow, Pembele, Aouchiche, Rusyn) until Stewart was In Southampton and signing, clearly related to that deal going through.

Bit of both.

I think we needed more coin up front. And Ipswich looks a crap prospect for him. He'll have to find a place in the side among all the other signings they've brought in. They'll be relegation fodder. And I'll be amazed if McKenna is there in 6-12 months time.

He'll be stuck there, relegated, on big money looking for a move to start all over again in 12 months, whereas he could have been the focal point of our Premier League campaign next season having already secured God-like status in red & white.

Should have gone end of last season to be fair but he stuck around, can't blame him for wanting the move. Looks like he wasn't willing to sign a new contract here in the Championship and wants to play in the Prem. The fee is lower than we expected but if it has the 25% sell on, that is good money for us in the future, providing he goes for a massive fee 30-40M. I'm actually looking forward to watching someone else play and develop, it's not the end of the world, we will lose other players eventually.

I do think its a bit of a weak move for him like

The profit would be higher had we not had the sell on clause to spurs. But then we would have had to pay a significant amount more to get him without it. It's just something we have to suck up as the likes of Cirkin, Ekwah, Ballard, Alese, Huggins will all have the same in their deals.

Leeds just got 40mn for Rutter.

I can understand him wanting to test himself in the premiership with better wages.

It's the club that has narked me with its complete capitulation over the price.
Leeds are in a far more financially stable position than us with parachute payments and a far better bargaining position.

Clubs were always going to know we’d shake hands at 20m , we finished 16th ffs.
