Jack Clarke

Still think the club weren't desperate?
I’m shocked by the whole thing. Assumed they wouldn’t be this stupid and got it wrong. Still can’t really wrap my head around it.

Been pulling you and others up all day over it because the one scenario I could t imagine happening is the one that has unfolded tonight. Should know better by now like.

Dan Neil will be sold to fund next seasons transfers no doubt and i serioualy think it.. Hasn't signed a renewal and only a year left come next summer.

It's absolutely depressing

Never forget that Ipswich got promoted from league one, leap frogged us into the premier league and have now poached our best player. Farcical.
They were in league wanna year ago mate they shouldn’t forget that yerrrr knarrrr like a few on here being up every time we question owt.

I'm not surprised he was sold as he is at the peak of his value as a Championship player, I did not expect that bid to be accepted. Completely shocked that they found it to be acceptable taking the Spurs sell on into account.

Of course they do, maybe not as big as we seem to have done with deals so that we were paying a pittance upfront. I doubt many would’ve done this deal given what was owed out on our end. It’s a pittance for the best attacking winger in the league, 23, English, with two years on his deal. I gave them credit for getting a good deal for Stewart this is the opposite and feels like we’ve been bullied by Ipswich town. They’ve had our pants down let’s be honest. He’s worth way more than £11m to this team and club.
I’d have said £25m to include a desperation tax but I’d say £20m is value tbh. The sell ons to Spurs were the bargain for getting him in the first place, so I see that as an extension of the £1m or whatever we paid to actually get him. More than worth it in the end.

The add ons from Ipswich I don’t think will be massively onerous so it will be closer to £20m than 15. If we can add the two heavily liked players there’s an inside left forward, a centre forward and possibly Mendy to be funded by £11m which isn’t a bad position imo.

Any indication from what you’ve seen as to why? Was reportedly turned down a few hours ago and now it’s full steam ahead. Baffling even for this f***ing club.

If he’d gone on deadline day for 25+ I’d have been sad but understanding. This is a disgrace.

Genuine question. In the era of PSR how do you NOT sell players? One answer is going up. If you don’t go up then what?

Neil will be next out as he still hasn't signed a new deal. Once next summer comes he's into the final 12 months and we will be shit scared once again.

It'll happen to a fair few because the club can't match their ambitions. I suspect watching our star player leave will have one or two more of our better players thinking about their futures away from the club.

Which was a bad decision; I’m not denying it as we only just scraped the playoffs. Ironically, once in them, it was lack of defenders that really cost us in the end.

That doesn’t detract from the fact that their gamble was different to the one we didn’t take tho. They got in Moore (on loan) to push for automatics. Had they failed, they were pretty confident by then that they had playoffs at least, we weren’t.
fair point. I just wish we’d push the boat out a little and have a go. We’ll find out in the next week.

Nope, completely baffled. It's even weirder that he trained today when the bid was reportedly in, took part in prep for the weekend and then was sold for a clearly below par price.

Not enough money in the coffers for the incomings, or him kicking off and asking for the move is all I can think of.

@MackemMagic saying he’s still deciding with family suggests it’s not Clarke forcing it.

Still feels extremely low however way you try to explain it. I don’t think we will replace him at all I posted I was worried when I read one of the lads about to sign operates off the left a lot that it meant Clarke deal was imminent. It seems is spending fees on players this whole summer has been dependent on selling someone to finance it, just so happens we’ve sold the biggest jewel in the squad for a shitty fee to do so. No pressure on the new lads then just the what 20 goal/assist to replace when they’ve not played in English football. It’s a massive gamble and could have cut the legs out from our season before the first international break.

So what’s the depressing bit about it? That it’s the one that commands the most value?
It would be nice to have a budget ourself for the summer and sell players to add to that. Unfortunately our budget is a big fat zero and we can't sign the players we need like strikers, until we force our best player out of the door for a below par price.

We are attempting to build a squad that then gets weakened like when we sold stewart to buy 6 or 7 players. Had we replaced stewart with one striker of similar cost and funded the others ourselves we'd be better off.
