New Music Releases Thread

It looks like a busy week. There are new releases tomorrow from Blackberry Smoke, Chromeo, Crawlers, El Perro Del Mar, Grandaddy, Idles, Jennifer Lopez, Laura Jane Grace, Les Amazon D'Afrique, Mother Mother, Omni, Paloma Faith, San Fermin, serprentwithfeet, William Doyle, Cherym, Royel Otis, Dean McPhee, Middle Kids, Guhts, Nouvelle Vague, Molly Lewis, Frontier Ruckus, C. Diab and James Jonathan Clancy.
New Wallows song today as well

My usual weekly review/summary:

San Fermin: countryish indie pop mixing boy and girl vocals. Good.
Laura Jane Grace: folk-punk as usual. Quite brief but very solid.
El Perro Del Mar: their first in a while. Enjoyable. The indie whimsy of earlier releases has gone a bit more Kate Bush. Good.
Lime Garden: varied indie pop, pretty good. Promising.
Cherym: enjoyable pop punk.
Royel Otis: another new (to me) band. This is very good, a little bit rocky. The singer's voice may annoy some.
Grandaddy: like a warm, fuzzy bowl of comfort food. Grandaddy are always great.
Les Amazones d'Afriques: the return of the African all female supergroup. This is excellent, an urgent mix of Afrobeat and more folkie stuff.
Blackberry Smoke: Southern rock, very 70s. Pretty good.
C. Diab: instrumental pieces, a very enjoyable album. Kind of fits into the ambient Americana thing.
James Jonathan Clancy: not sure how to describe this. Sort of ambient, goth punk, I guess. It's very good.
William Doyle: he's back on top form. Lovely songs, amix of guitars and electronica, top stuff.
Frontier Ruckus: folkie, American indie rock. They're a much underrated band. This is up to their usual standard.
Idles: a bit more abstract than they've previously been and maybe a bit more mellow and sensitive. Could be a grower?
Molly Lewis: this is thr whistler, not the ukulele player. She's kind of become the go to whistler for many musicians and this is her debut. It's got an enjoyable easy listening vibe.
Omni: the post-punk trio's first in 5 years. Enjoyably urgent.
GUHTS: female fronted rock. Decent.
Middle Kids: enjoyable Aussie indie pop. They're prwtty good.
Dean McPhee: instrumental quasi-ambient guitar pieces. I like this.

Album of the week: William Doyle with Grandaddy just behind and Les Amazones d'Afrique taking bronze. A pack in behind them.

I’m really enjoying Bingo Fury

There are new albums tomorrow from Alev & Jas, Allie X, Corb Lund, Elephant Stone, Erick the Architect, Hurray for the RIff Raff, IDKHOW, Laetitia Sadier, Mary Timony, MGMT, Mick Mars, Nadine Shah, Real Estate, Children's Hour, Whitelands, Teethe, Liam Bailey, The Waterboys (a big box set of the material that became This Is The Sea), Martin Carthy (his 1965 debut re-released), Rafael Toral, Maya Shenfeld and John Bramwell.

New album from Red Rum Club is out tomorrow. The previously released tracks from the album are a bit of a mixed bag in terms of quality but as I’m a fan of their other albums I’ll have a listen as soon as possible.
The Snuts album is also out tomorrow and I could pretty much repeat the above paragraph verbatim.

I’ve still not listened to last week’s releases, but Corb Lund, HftRR and MGMT for me this week.

Will probably give Real Estate a go, though I’ve found their last couple of efforts underwhelming.

the best thing about this thread has been finding out about acts i'd never heard of, and being blown away by them... and best example was the Hurray for the RIff Raff album a few years ago which some had picked out as their album of the year even though i had no clue who they were... hopefully this new effort is decent enough.

Nadine's album has been getting good press reviews...

The Hurray for the Riff Raff album is supposed to be a bit of a return to the style of their earlier albums (the ones immediately prior to The Navigator, which is, I guess, the one you're talking about). Nadine has been getting "her best yet" reviews so I'm looking forward to that. Also MGMT (apparently a real return to form), Laetitier Sadier and Whitelands plus one or two others. I want to give The Waterboys' 1985 a good listen but it's 100 tracks (including the eventual This Is The Sea album).

Slightly off topic but my son is the drummer in a band called Rokkari, they are on Instagram if you want to check them out. Anyway, they are releasing their first song on the 1st March if any of you are interested in new upcoming local bands. They are only 15 and 16 but they sound class like, very talented youngins! Cheers.

Ian McNabb’s most recent release ‘New Brighton Rock’ has just arrived on streaming services. It’s a bit more listenable than some of his other recent albums and at about 40 minutes rather shorter. I could have done without the Foreigner cover version though.

Saw them open for Field Music at the cluny. Good energy about them. Will have a listen to the single. Good luck to them.
