Detectorists

Absolutely guttted. Me favourite programme of all time and didn’t enjoy it. Maybe expected too much but just thought it lacked any of the warmth and subtleness that makes it great. it felt like he was trying to get a whole 6 episode series into a 1hr episode and therefore it lost a lot of the little moments. Plus a couple of characters just didn’t seem entirely right, Lance for one.
Just watched it and it just felt like a few days after the last episodes
Same simple brilliance .Lances behaviour was a result of the last fiasco. Thought it kept it down to the one main story and had the classic stuff we love in

Ok, questions

Why on earth were they trying to scare us into thinking his wife and kids died in a house fire? Is that really the type of show this is?

Why was Lance an absolute prick for first half? Just to redeem himself later? That's not an excuse

Why make his wife out to be a failure? Didn't get the job, reacted poorly etc. Again, just to have a redemption moment at the end? No.

Did a show about being gentle and fun really need to go after the Holy Grail ffs?
And more

Lance and his missus no longer living together. For no reason relating to the plot. But begs the question, what happened to his daughter then???

So much stupid crap, for what seems like absolutely no reason.

One story?
So why have their dream cottage burned down (and hint at everyone being dead). Why have his missus move out and no mention of the daughter.
The scout Hall to be knocked down?

It was mix up of alsorts, exactly the opposite of "one story" which is what it should have been.

I'm on about this episode
Reading these Barry Norman reviews you'd think they'd did a follow up to Citizen Kane
The realism has always been miles away , both of them had lasses out of their league . Lances ex ,totally unbelievable. The members of the club ,no chance
It works because it ignores reality and takes us somewhere else

I don't recall them ever living together in the series.
It was the big build up, a series spanning storyline about his daughter needing a place to live, and the two of them needing to get together.
Last episode, the daughter moved into the boat. The gf moved in with him.

You'd said missus and I presumed you meant the one running the spiritual shop rather than Toni.

Binged it last few rainy days really enjoyed the simple back to basic comedy, no forced humour or tacky story just good old boring British life loved it 👍

I've done this too after being told for ages to watch. I thoroughly enjoyed it and the humour becomes more obvious the more familiar you become with the characters. I actually think the recent special was the writer's kind of taking the piss out of it a bit, so they made more far fetched.

Just started watching it a couple of days ago after some rave reviews on here. Not disappointed at all. Totally hooked and enjoying its easy going style. Great stuff.

Apparently Crook bought the TR7 for himself. There's a scene in Worzel Gummigde where in the background it's parked in the corner of a field and there's a pair of detectorists too.
