Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Agree completely.

Anyone saying no fly zone is the right thing to do, needs to accept that it would certainly escalate things & probably bring the war to the rest or Europe.

Russian ground forces might be poor & they're certainly there to be got. And certainly a group of NATO planes could do em in. But remember behind them lies about 600 ready to go nuclear missiles. And a nutter surrounded by nutters or yes men, or people scared to say no. Each of those missiles carries at least one warhead that has on average 10-20x Hiroshimas.
And plenty 'ready to go' NATO nukes as coward Putin knows only too well.
No way he'd start a nuclear war as he knows there'd no Russia left if he launched.

I explained why even if wasn’t moot, why it would still be for us to do the right thing,

(and yes it’s moot given my opinion, as it’s me you directed the question to).

Given Russian policy on nuke usage, us shooting down Russian planes or shooting their troops represents a clear breach of one of their qualifications for using a nuke.

Its an awful situation but an impossible one unless you're prepared for WW3.

Utter rubbish. No-one is shit scared of Putin, NATO and it’s allies are trying to keep the conflict contained, trying to stop this escalating to WW3. It’s not fear.
Fear makes you invade a sovereign state.
If Putin attacked a NATO country, or it’s assets, you would see a different response.

Aye, reetyo.

Serious question. Would you take a nuke for Ukraine?
A serious question needs a nuanced answer.

Yes, I would risk a nuke for Ukraine. As in, I would send in NATO and also airstrikes on the Kremlin to try and annihilate the invasion knowing that there is a risk that Putin would nuke.

If he nuked and everyone was killed then fine - you can’t regret anything when your dead.

I would rather take a chance of fighting for the free world and being nuked than live in a world where tyranny and oppression prevail.

Playing devils advocate here what if we don’t imply it and then he uses it to launch an attack on another country (it’s possible) a million reasons why this could escalate and nato not showing might is one of them.

Which country can he invade that isn't 'protected' by article 5?

I'd imagine the likes of Finland are sharpening the pencils for paperwork as we speak.

If anything this fiasco tells people to maybe get into NATO for the apparent deterrent in the form of protection.

He's in a bunker in the Altai mountains with his whole family BTW.

Everyone knows no winners once a nuke flies.

Russian policy on nuke usage?

I asked if you'd take a nuke to defend Ukraine.
No you asked sweeper that not me.

I would
Risk my life to defend Ukraine if I was called up on yes. So in theory yes. Would Russia nuke us to defend Ukraine who know.

I would also risk my life for you and others on here when called up on, doesn’t matter what opinion people have etc I signed up when I was 16.

That’s just me and how I am.

Just because Ukraine is not part of nato should not me we don’t care.

I get it your scared and that shows reality we are all a little bit scared it’s what ifs and buts. This is scenarios we wish we were never in.

Now I don’t think like others that putin will walk through the rest of Europe nor do I think he would actually press the button gladly it’s not that easy.

And people with opinions like this are allowed to continue posting in this thread?

Astonishing, nothing nuanced about this post at all.

This same argument has dominated the thread since it started. My take - appeasing Putin is a terrible idea. Attacking Putin is a terrible idea. Net summary - not a f***ing clue.
Appeasement will end up in a war anyway, as we know from Hitler. So defending Ukraine sooner rather than letter is the better option imo.

Has there been a single allegation yet of any politician taking Russian money outside of the established rules/not properly declaring it?

Can we really call transparently-declared political donations within a well-established regulatory framework “corruption”?

Would to do so, not be an insult to people who’ve lived under actual, corrupt governments elsewhere?
A declared donation to a right-wing politician from a communist country.
Yeah what's not to like
Jeremy Hunt got £98,972 For what?
